Legally Blonde prequel series finally gets release date confirmed โ€“ with added good news for Elle Woods fans

The release date for the upcoming Legally Blonde prequel series, Elle, has been announced, and there’s also a bit of unexpected news!

Great news for fans of Legally Blonde! The new series, Elle, will debut on Prime Video on July 1st, and it’s already been renewed for another season. Everyone’s excited to see how the show portrays Elle Woods’s adventures in high school.

I’m really excited about this new series! It’s going to be a deep dive into Elle’s high school years, finally showing us all the things that made her the confident, hilarious character we fell in love with in Legally Blonde and its sequel. We’ll get to see what shaped her into the woman she became.

Reese Witherspoon, a well-known actress, is heavily involved in the series both through her production company, Hello Sunshine, and as an executive producer.

When season two was announced, she expressed her excitement, saying it’s been a lifelong dream to tell the story of Elle Woods’ journey to becoming the confident and inspiring character fans adore, especially since it’s been 25 years since audiences first met her.

It’s been incredibly rewarding to see Lexi Minetree take on the role of Elle. I believe the show’s messages about being kind, true to yourself, and having self-confidence will appeal to both longtime fans and new viewers.

It’s been a wonderful experience collaborating with the amazing team at Hello Sunshine, Amazon, and our talented writers and directors to create Elle’s high school story. Iโ€™m so excited to release Season One and begin filming Season Two!

Peter Friedlander, head of television at Amazon MGM Studios, also explained that the show’s renewal was due to its ability to capture the spirit of Elle Woods โ€“ her heart, confidence, and positive outlook โ€“ while also telling a relatable and modern coming-of-age story.

Renewing the show for a second season shows how much we believe in the story and the talented people who made it, and we can’t wait for viewers to start watching Elle’s story from the beginning with Season One.

Okay, so I just got a peek at the new series, and it’s looking promising! Laura Kittrell, who you might recognize from Insecure, is the creative force behind it, and Lexi Minetree absolutely shines as Elle Woods. The supporting cast is fantastic too โ€“ June Diane Raphael is perfectly cast as Elle’s mom, Eva, and Tom Everett Scott plays her dad, Wyatt. Rounding things out are Gabrielle Policano, Jacob Moskovitz, Chandler Kinney, and Zac Looker, all of whom seem poised to deliver some great performances.

The show also stars Jessica Belkin, Logan Shroyer, Amy Pietz, Matt Ober, Chloe Wepper, David Burtka, Brad Harder, Kayla Maisonet, Lisa Yamada, and James Van Der Beek, who all appear in multiple episodes.

When the series was first announced in 2024, Reese Witherspoon shared her enthusiasm, saying she was thrilled to explore Elle Woods’ teenage years. The show will reveal how Elle’s unique personality and cleverness helped her navigate high school, and she couldn’t imagine a better story to tell.

I’m so thrilled that Legally Blonde is returning, and I want to thank the fantastic teams at Prime Video and Hello Sunshine, as well as our wonderful writer Laura Kittrell, for helping me make this happen!
