Based on recent leaks, it appears that there could be a revamped or updated version of an earlier Zelda game coming in 2025 from the Nintendo The Legend of Zelda series. Over the past few years, whispers and speculation have suggested that Nintendo has been working on bringing The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker and The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess to the Nintendo Switch. However, so far, Nintendo has not confirmed these games for their platform, leading some to question if they truly exist. With this new leak, it seems that the possibility of these remasters is rekindled.
It was discovered on the online store of electronics seller, Newegg, that they’ve hinted at a revamp or enhanced version of an older Zelda game being released this year. This information was noticed in the description of a Nintendo eShop gift card, which details Nintendo games expected to be launched in 2025. Apart from Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition, and Pokemon Legends: Z-A, Newegg also listed “a reimagined Zelda title”.
Following the finding of this Zelda game by Nintendo fans, Newegg subsequently changed the product description to exclude it. However, its initial appearance implies that Newegg might have leaked information about an announcement that Nintendo hasn’t made yet. On the other hand, it could be a mere accident caused by someone speculating which Nintendo games will be released in 2025.
If there’s talk about a revamped or updated version of an old Zelda game being in development, it could be a logical move considering Nintendo’s upcoming plans for the Switch. At present, Nintendo is set to roll out several new first-party games on the Switch up until March this year. Since the anticipated launch of the Nintendo Switch 2 is rumored for June at the earliest, this would leave a gap of a few months between March and June. Filling this gap with re-releases of classic Zelda games could be an effective strategy to keep players engaged while they wait for the arrival of the next-gen Switch. Moreover, if the supposed ports of _Wind Waker_ and _Twilight Princess_ are indeed complete and ready for release, these could serve as exciting additions to this bridge period.
Based on the rumors circulating, it seems Nintendo might officially unveil their plan soon. Trustworthy sources suggest a new Nintendo Direct event is scheduled for February 2025, focusing primarily on games designed for the Switch console. If this February Direct does indeed occur in the near future, it’s highly likely that we will finally get a glimpse of the long-anticipated Zelda games.
