Legendary Shonen Jump Anime Return Releases New Trailer and More

At the start of its eagerly awaited panel at Anime Expo, Warner Bros. Japan kicked things off with a punch by unveiling a fresh teaser for the upcoming Fist of the North Star anime. Unlike previous versions that relied on 2D animation, this new series employs CGI. The trailer spotlighted the barren wasteland backdrop and action sequences reminiscent of the original manga. The fights in the series remain as brutal and violent as portrayed in the comics. The protagonist, Kenshiro, was prominently displayed in his chiseled muscle form. Additionally, the trailer offered a peek at two other significant characters from the series, Bat and Rin. Warner Bros. also released a new poster showcasing these young characters wandering the desolate wastelands on their own.

As a die-hard fan, I’m thrilled to share that the teaser for the highly anticipated CG anime remake of “Fist of the North Star” reiterated its planned release in 2026. However, a specific launch date remains undisclosed as of now. The announcement for this remake was initially made in 2023, marking the franchise’s 40th anniversary.

Intriguingly, the official franchise account on X (formerly Twitter) teased an update about the anime series ahead of Anime Expo. This hinted that we could expect more details about the remake at the Warner Bros. panel. Truly exciting times! On June 27th, 2025, a new poster featuring Kenshiro and the official confirmation of the 2026 release window were unveiled! Stay tuned for more updates on this epic journey!

The CGI Fist of the North Star Remake is Coming in 2026

I’m thrilled to share that Warner Bros. Japan has unveiled the star-studded cast for the upcoming “Fist of the North Star” anime! The iconic character Kenshiro will now be brought to life by Shunsuke Takeuchi, replacing the legendary Akira Kamiya from the original series. Over the years, various voice actors have lent their talents to this role, but it’s exciting to see a fresh take on it. Joining him are Daiki Yamashita and M.A.O., who will breathe life into Bat and Rin respectively in this reimagining. The team behind the anime promises that this new adaptation will be a truer representation of the original work by Buronson and Tetsuo Hara. Can’t wait to see it!

During their discussion, they zeroed in on “Record of Ragnarok” and “JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure”, two significant anime franchises under Warner Bros. Over the past few years, the company has churned out numerous hit anime series, such as “Mob Psycho 100”, “Batman Ninja”, and live-action adaptations of “Rurouni Kenshin” and “Bleach”. With over 100 million copies in circulation, “Fist of the North Star” has earned a spot among the most popular manga ever created. This classic series was penned by Buronson and illustrated by Hara, and it unfolds in an apocalyptic world set in the year 199X. The narrative follows the adventures of Kenshiro, a solitary traveler on a quest to locate his sworn enemy, Shin.

Kenshiro is the inheritor of the renowned martial art known as Hokuto Shinken, or “Fist of the North Star.” Across the post-apocalyptic landscape, he answers the cries of the oppressed and becomes a beacon of hope in a world crying out for it. Accompanied by Bat and Rin, two fellow wanderers, they traverse the barren Earth. The original manga wrapped up on August 8, 1988, after 245 chapters and 27 volumes. Due to its popularity, Toei Animation adapted it into a series in 1984, which spanned 109 episodes before concluding in 1987. A sequel titled “Fist of the North Star 2” was produced by Toei Animation, running for 43 more episodes and finishing in 1988.
