It’s always wise to be skeptical of announced PC game requirements before a game actually launches, as performance can often improve with further development. This has happened with games like 007 First Light, and it’s now the case with TT Games’ LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight.
The game developer recently announced on Steam that they’ve lowered the recommended amount of RAM for the game from 32 GB to 16 GB, based on recent testing. They also stated that other hardware requirements haven’t changed and that these specifications are still subject to change. The developer plans to keep optimizing the game and will likely refine the requirements before its official release.
These worries grew stronger when the industry started experiencing RAM shortages late last year, shortly after OpenAI and Samsung announced their partnership. This caused a significant increase in RAM prices, impacting many manufacturers. Even Valve had to postpone the release of its Steam Machine, though it’s still expected to launch within the first six months of the year.
It’s unclear if the current RAM shortage will cause prices to increase for existing and upcoming game consoles. But for game developers, it likely means they’ll have to optimize their games to run on less powerful hardware, which is especially important when every copy sold matters.
LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight arrives on May 29th for Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, PC, and Nintendo Switch. You can find a detailed look at the gameplay here.
