In a recent announcement – just a few days ago – previews of “LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight” have emerged, showcasing the first mission of the game. The clip, provided by GameSpot, offers a sneak peek into the anticipated stealth and action-packed gameplay that the upcoming title promises. You can watch it below.
Initially, the story unfolds through a chat between Batman and Jim Gordon, but things shift when Red Hood’s associates enter to transport some goods. As is typical for a LEGO game made by TT Games, there’s a good dose of humor. Moreover, the upcoming game seems to have been significantly impacted by Rocksteady’s Batman: Arkham series in terms of its playstyle.
In the role of the Dark Knight, I’m given a multitude of ways to lurk in the night, stalking my foes with precision and silence. The Red Hood gang’s illicit activities have left behind intricate puzzles that require keen observation and analytical thinking – much like the Arkham series. Though these brain teasers might be straightforward, they evoke the same engaging atmosphere as before. And with a swift flap of my cape, I can soar through the levels, covering ground in no time to reach new destinations quickly.
As a gaming enthusiast, I’ve found that the combat sequences in this game bear a striking resemblance to the rhythm-based system from the Arkham series. In these intense battles, you get to play as both Batman and Gordon. With a variety of long combo strings at your disposal, you can swiftly neutralize swarms of thugs. Timing is crucial here, as you’ll need to counter their attacks effectively. To make taking down larger groups easier, you can also employ a range of gadgets.
At the end of the stage, there appears to be a climactic clash with Red Hood One. After this confrontation, Batman and Gordon chase down the head of the Red Hood Gang, all while navigating environmental perils and remnants of the gang members. The level concludes with an exhilarating aerial chase, as Batman and Gordon soar towards Red Hood One who is attempting to flee on a zipline. Unfortunately for him, Red Hood One plunges into a tank filled with peculiar substances, meeting his demise.
Based on the preview for LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight, it’s clear that the game will weave its unique narrative while incorporating locations and tales from various chapters of the Batman universe. This spans multiple films featuring the superhero, ranging from the 1989 Batman to Christopher Nolan’s trilogy, which began with Batman Begins and concluded with The Dark Knight Rises.
In 2026, it’s expected that “LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight” will make its debut on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch 2. This upcoming game promises seven distinct playable characters such as Robin, Batgirl, Catwoman, Nightwing, and Talia al Ghul. The game environment is designed to be expansive, allowing players to traverse numerous Gotham City landmarks at will. However, it’s worth noting that the developers have confirmed that the game will not support online co-op. Instead, cooperative play will only be available locally.
