What is LEGO Smart Play?
LEGO Smart Play is a new technology that brings LEGO building to life! It uses sensors, speakers, and a special LEGO brick to create realistic lights and sounds as you play.
LEGO’s new system brings toys to life using three key components: Smart Bricks, Smart Minifigures, and Smart Tags. It’s packed with over 20 unique technologies that allow toys to react instantly – for example, ships make engine noises when moved, lightsabers hum during play, and the environment changes based on which characters are present. LEGO emphasizes that this is all done without any screens or artificial intelligence; everything happens automatically and in real time. Wired reports that LEGO confirms no pre-recorded sounds are used, ensuring a truly responsive experience.
Smart Bricks run on a long-lasting internal battery and recharge easily using a wireless charging pad.
According to Tom Donaldson, a Senior Vice President at LEGO, the new LEGO Smart Play system combines building, storytelling, and technology to create a more captivating play experience – and it doesn’t require any screens! LEGO believes this represents a new level of interactive and imaginative play, and they’re excited for children to try it when it becomes available later this year.
