LEGO’s Second Ever Dune Set Will Reportedly Recreate One of Sci-Fi’s Most Famous Monsters

Denis Villeneuve’s Dune films have successfully captured the spirit of Frank Herbert’s books thanks to modern visual effects. This technology allows both the futuristic world and its massive creatures, like the Sandworms of Arrakis, to feel real on screen. These sandworms were previously featured on a Dune: Part Two popcorn bucket collectible, but now LEGO appears poised to release an official Shai-Hulud (sandworm) building set based on the new films.

A new LEGO set based on the movie Dune is reportedly in development! A source from the Brick Tap fan page shared information on the /r/LegoLeak subreddit, revealing a “Sandworm” set is planned for release. This set will be part of the more complex LEGO Icons line and will contain 1837 pieces, costing around $140. It’s expected to hit shelves on January 1, 2027, shortly after Dune: Part Three comes out in theaters.

LEGO’s New Dune Set May Give Fans a Sandworm

I’m so excited for the new LEGO Icons Dune Sandworm set! But I’m really curious to see how they’ll pull it off. The sandworm, Shai-Hulud, is such a huge and important part of what makes Dune amazing – its size and how it moves are legendary. It’s going to be a real challenge for LEGO to capture that epic scale and make it look as impressive as the creature deserves.

LEGO could build a Sandworm set in a few different ways. The most probable approach is to create only a section of the massive creature – likely the front part with its famous mouth and teeth, and maybe even a minifigure rider on top. The leaked image showing this set features Paul Atreides riding the sandworm while it’s still partially buried in the sand, which supports this idea.

Another possibility is making the set represent the sandworm’s mouth. The book Dune shows sandworms swallowing massive vehicles and machines, so the build process could depict it rising from beneath the sand. While a full-size Sandworm LEGO set would be amazing for fans, its sheer size might make it impractical – though many fans would actually see that as a positive!

When Dune: Part Two came out in 2024, LEGO released a set based on the movie – an Atreides Royal Ornithopter with 1369 pieces. The new LEGO Sandworm set will be much larger, containing almost 500 more pieces than the Ornithopter.
