The latest update (version 3.0) for Animal Crossing: New Horizons doesn’t introduce a lot of brand new characters. While you can unlock villagers inspired by The Legend of Zelda and Splatoon using amiibo figures, and Resetti is now available to help manage your island’s landscaping, most of the new faces are relatives of Kapp’n. They’ll be running a new hotel and offering exciting new items for sale.
The new 3.0 update adds a ton of content to the game, including several details that viewers may have overlooked in the trailer. The trailer was quite packed, and only lasted twelve minutes. One small detail Nintendo showed was a familiar face returning from Animal Crossing: New Leaf, casually sitting in the hotel lobby.
Kapp’n’s Daughter Leila Could Be More Than Just Decoration
Leila’s Role In New Leaf Suggests Interactions
Leila is the newest resident of our Animal Crossing island. The trailer shows her happily coloring and drawing on the sofa, and you can see her artwork displayed around the island, even on Kapp’n’s boat! She’s Kapp’n and Leilani’s daughter and, although she’s a newcomer to the island, she sounds very young, even though this isn’t her first time playing Animal Crossing.
Leila was a popular, though quirky, character in Animal Crossing: New Leaf. She was known for inviting players to “play supermarket” with her, where she’d buy their items for only 5% of their real worth.
The main advantage of selling to her was that her shop was always open and it was a convenient way to get rid of things I didn’t need anymore. But honestly, I mostly enjoyed the sweet experience of selling the little girl seashells and making her so happy.
The latest trailer for Animal Crossing: New Horizons suggests Leila’s role isn’t about offering players anything new, but simply being connected to Kapp’n’s family. She could have seemed that way in New Leaf too, though. It’s likely interacting with her will involve more than just a basic greeting.
Speculating What Leila’s Role In ACNH Could Be
Are We Still Playing Supermarket?
After speaking with Leila when she visits The Roost in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, it seems she hasn’t aged since Animal Crossing: New Leaf. She still struggles with pronunciation, prefers cookies to coffee, and her appearance in the 3.0 update looks like that of a young child.
At the hotel, she’s wearing a blue and white uniform like her family, which makes it seem like she wants to help with the hotel’s operations. She might also be selling her drawings, since they’re used as decorations everywhere. Or, she may simply continue to enjoy our make-believe supermarket game, even if she ‘charges’ us outrageous prices! I’m hoping she’ll come up with some new designs we can use to personalize things.
Nintendo hasn’t revealed what Leila’s arrival means, so it’s unclear what role she’ll play in the new Animal Crossing: New Horizons update. However, it seems likely she’ll be an important part of the game once she moves to our islands.
