Lenovo makes its first major gaming innovation in years — Rollable OLED ultrawide screen tech is coming to Legion laptops

I was blown away at CES 2025 when Lenovo unveiled the ThinkBook Plus Rollable! It’s the first laptop of its kind with AI built in, but what *really* got my attention was the screen. It’s a rolling OLED display that goes from a standard 14 inches all the way up to 16.7 inches! Apparently, this wasn’t something they just whipped up – it was years in the making with lots of testing and design work. It’s seriously impressive.

At CES 2026, Lenovo unveiled a new rollable laptop concept, bringing the innovative technology to its Legion Pro gaming line. Unlike previous rollable models that expanded upwards, this Legion Pro version features a 16-inch screen that rolls out horizontally, transforming into either a 21.5-inch or 24-inch ultrawide display.

This laptop is incredibly versatile thanks to a special design that uses two motors to keep things stable and quiet. Lenovo explains that this design also keeps the OLED screen perfectly smooth, preventing wrinkles, reflections, and anything else that might bother you while you’re using it.

One of my biggest concerns with the ThinkBook Rollable was the noticeable crease where the screen rolled up. I’m hoping Lenovo’s claims are accurate, because that same creasing on a gaming monitor would be a much bigger problem.

Here’s a view of the closed Legion Rollable Concept. Even with the components for the rolling screen, it doesn’t appear much larger than a typical device.

The Lenovo Legion Rollable Concept functions just like a regular gaming laptop when you don’t need the extra screen.

Lenovo is promoting its new rollable Legion Pro concept as perfect for esports players who travel frequently and need to practice on the go. They see the standard 16-inch screen as a way to improve quick reactions – what they call ‘Focus Mode.’ A larger, 21.5-inch ‘Tactical Mode’ is designed to enhance broader awareness, help with training maneuvers, and improve teamwork.

When fully extended to 24 inches – Lenovo calls this “Arena Mode” – it’s ideal for serious competitive practice, eliminating the need for a separate, large monitor.

Since the Legion Pro Rollable builds on the powerful Legion Pro 7i – a gaming laptop we highly recommend and currently rank as one of the best – it offers a similarly impressive level of performance and quality.

Lenovo’s new laptops feature the newest, most powerful Intel Core Ultra processors and can be equipped with up to an NVIDIA RTX 5090 Laptop GPU. However, I still recommend against buying the RTX 5090 for laptops, as it’s significantly more expensive than the RTX 5080 with only a small increase in performance.

The ThinkBook Plus Rollable is currently best suited for professionals who want a larger screen without a heavier laptop. However, I expect Lenovo’s next rollable design to be much more appealing to a wider audience, not just esports pros.

I often find gaming laptops lacking because of their screen size, which is why I usually go back to using my desktop and large monitor. I think this PC will be really appealing to people who work remotely or who have limited desk space, as it offers a full display experience without needing a bulky 24-inch monitor.

Since this is still a prototype, there’s no confirmed release date or price yet. It might become a real product eventually, similar to the ThinkBook Rollable, but we’ll have to wait and see what Lenovo decides.
