As a huge Paul Thomas Anderson fan, I’ve been following the Oscar buzz around his latest, One Battle After Another, and it’s already racked up an impressive 13 nominations. But honestly, I think it deserves even more recognition. Leonardo DiCaprio recently spoke to the Associated Press and brought up a really important point: the lack of Academy attention for his co-star, Chase Infiniti, who gave a fantastic performance as Willa Ferguson. It’s great to see him advocating for her!
This actress truly made the movie. She brought so much heart and emotion to the role that it’s impossible to imagine the film without her. As a newcomer, taking on such a demanding, emotionally-driven part in her first film was an incredible feat, and she deserves to be incredibly proud of what she accomplished – we all are.
The National Board of Review named One Battle After Another the best film of 2025, but it’s facing strong competition at the 97th Academy Awards. Films like Sinners, Marty Supreme, Hamnet, Sentimental Value, The Secret Agent, and Blue Moon are all potential winners in different categories. Leonardo DiCaprio is hoping to win his second Best Actor award – he’s been nominated eight times previously. He plays Bob Ferguson, a former revolutionary who is forced out of retirement when a dangerous enemy, Colonel Lockjaw, targets his 16-year-old daughter, Willa, after they’ve settled into a peaceful life in Baktan Cross.
At this month’s Golden Globe Awards, Rose Byrne won Best Actress in a Musical or Comedy film, beating out Infiniti. Meanwhile, Teyana Taylor, another popular choice from One Battle After Another, took home the award for Best Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture.

Teyana Taylor delivered a memorable acceptance speech at the Golden Globes, beating out strong competition from Amy Madigan (for Weapons), Emily Blunt (The Smashing Machine), Ariana Grande (Wicked: For Good), and Elle Fanning and Inga Ibsdotter (Sentimental Value). Visibly emotional, the 35-year-old admitted she hadn’t fully prepared a speech, as she didn’t expect to win. Now, everyone is wondering if she can continue this winning streak at the upcoming major awards ceremony.
