Les Mis announces special 40th anniversary gala with Alfie Boe and Michael Ball returning

After 40 incredible years as the longest-running show in London’s West End, Les Misérables deserves a spectacular celebration, and that’s exactly what’s happening.

This October, the beloved musical celebrates 40 years in London with a special charity performance featuring stars from its West End and Broadway history.

The event will feature performances by Alfie Boe and Michael Ball, both known for playing Jean Valjean, as well as Patti LuPone, Carrie Hope Fletcher, and Samantha Barks, who starred in the film adaptation of Les Misérables.

The show will be performed live in concert by a cast of almost 100 people, featuring songs from the soundtrack, just like they did for the 25th and 30th anniversaries.

Money raised at the gala will be donated to The Felix Project and UKHarvest, two charities fighting food insecurity in London by collecting and giving out good-quality food to families in need.

After the news was released, the show’s producer, Cameron Mackintosh, expressed his excitement about celebrating the 40th anniversary of Les Misérables in London’s West End.

We’ve celebrated big moments with shows at famous places like the Royal Albert Hall for our tenth anniversary and the o2 Arena for our twenty-fifth. For this special occasion, I wanted to return to where it all began and host the celebration closer to home.

Les Misérables is unique in musical history for its consistent success across multiple formats. It has thrived in two different stage productions, a popular and award-winning film adaptation, and grand concert performances in both large arenas and traditional theaters worldwide.

Victor Hugo’s story continues to resonate worldwide, reaching diverse audiences through translations and the powerful music of Boublil and Schönberg. Just as Hugo intended when he originally wrote the novel in 1845, audiences everywhere find the story inspiring and moving.

Gala tickets become available this Friday. However, you can purchase tickets now for special anniversary shows running from September 8th to November 3rd.
