Marvel is continuing to release trailers for its upcoming movie, Avengers: Doomsday. The newest footage actually changes things that were established in the post-credits scene of last year’s Thunderbolts. Thunderbolts was a particularly strong entry in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and an important film for the overall Multiverse Saga, as it brought together a lot of supporting characters.
The movie Thunderbolts introduced a team that will play a key role in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday storyline, essentially becoming the new version of the Avengers by the end of the film. Although the asterisk used in Thunderbolts initially seemed like a major surprise, Marvel had another reveal planned for the post-credits scene. However, the trailer for Avengers: Doomsday has now changed the impact of that original surprise.

Following the team’s transformation into the New Avengers, the story jumps forward 14 months to the scene after the credits. Marvel Studios then revealed that the New Avengers were using the former Avengers Tower as their base of operations. This was possible because Valentina Allegra de Fontaine owned the tower and had some influence over the heroes, who were now wearing team uniforms and dealing with legal challenges.
Marvel created a storyline where the New Avengers and Captain America’s Avengers will clash when Doomsday appears later this year. The movie Thunderbolts also hinted at the return of the Fantastic Four with a post-credits scene showing their spaceship traveling through space. Thunderbolts came out on May 2, 2025, and Marvel recently updated that post-credits scene on January 9, 2026.
Avengers: Doomsday’s New Trailer Skips Ahead Of Thunderbolts*’s Setup
Although The Fantastic Four: First Steps came out shortly after Thunderbolts, the latter film was the first to show any connection to the Fantastic Four within the Marvel Cinematic Universe – even if it was just their spacecraft, and not the heroes themselves. More importantly, Thunderbolts established the groundwork for the New Avengers to be the first team from the MCU’s main Earth to encounter the Fantastic Four.
The latest trailer for Marvel’s Avengers: Doomsday has created a lot of excitement. It features a surprising reunion: Ebon Moss-Bachrach, reprising his role as The Thing, meets Winston Duke’s M’Baku, who is now confirmed as the King of Wakanda, in a desert setting. This is the first time fans have seen a character from the Fantastic Four interact with a hero from the main Marvel Cinematic Universe.
This change impacts the storyline established in the Thunderbolts post-credits scene. Fans were anticipating the New Avengers meeting Pedro Pascal’s Reed Richards and the rest of the Fantastic Four, but that moment may no longer happen as the first introduction to the team’s involvement in Avengers: Doomsday. While a meeting in space before the scenes with The Thing and M’Baku is still possible, it won’t have the same impact as the initial setup in Thunderbolts suggested.
