As a lifelong fan of Oasis, I must say that Glen Matlock’s comments about my beloved band are a bit like listening to one of his solo songs – disappointing and forgettable. While I respect his contributions to music history, particularly with the Sex Pistols, his dismissal of Oasis as “boring” and “samey” feels off-base and uninformed.
Liam Gallagher has hit back at Glen Matlock after the Sex Pistols bassist labelled Oasis “boring”.
In August, the news sent Oasis enthusiasts into an uproar as Gallagher and his brother Noel hinted at a much-anticipated reunion tour slated for 2025.
However, during a recent interview about NME, Matlock (currently on a UK tour promoting his upcoming 2023 solo album “Consequences Coming”) expressed that he couldn’t understand why there was so much commotion.
“If you’re a fan, it’s understandable. They’ve got lots of fans.”
He continued: “I’ve always seen Oasis as a bit Status Quo. [With Quo], to hear one song once was enough. It’s a bit like that with Oasis: to hear one song once is enough. I just find them kind of samey.”
He mentioned, “I’m familiar with these individuals. They are friendly fellows. I need to be cautious about my words as I run into Noel Gallagher quite frequently. He resides not far from where I live.
I find Liam simply extraordinary! His vocal skills are impressive – a blend of raw energy reminiscent of Johnny Rotten, yet capable of hitting the right notes. On stage, his charisma is mesmerizing; he has an uncanny ability to captivate audiences just by standing still.
“The rest of the guys? No. I think they’re boring live. I’d never go to see ‘em.”
Mentioning a past opportunity where he was considered to play bass for Oasis, he commented: “There were discussions about me potentially aiding them with bass duties way back – in ’95 or ’96 – and then they resolved their issue regarding the person handling that role.
Originally, I received an invitation to watch them perform at Earl’s Court. However, I chose not to stay because it was dull. Later on, I went to see them again in upstate New York with Clem Burke from Blondie. Frankly, I couldn’t wait to leave that time either.
Currently, Liam Gallagher has responded to some comments on the platform formerly known as Twitter. In response to a fan’s inquiry about an interview, he said, “I don’t like that guy, Sid Vicious was the real Sex Pistols.
As a devoted movie critic, I find myself drawn to reminisce about the time when I witnessed the gritty transformation of a punk rock band, The Sex Pistols. In the whirlwind year of 1977, the scene was set for a newcomer to take over the bass guitar from Glen Matlock – none other than the late, great Sid Vicious. This enigmatic figure left an indelible mark on the band and the music world at large.
Vicious went on to become an icon in the punk scene before his death in 1979.
Pondering over his continued status as a cultural legend, Matock shared with NME, “What can I change about it? It bothers me. It’s simply the phenomenon surrounding those who passed away at a young age. Take Marilyn Monroe, whose films were outstanding. James Dean, he made remarkable films too. Jimi Hendrix, if you appreciate that genre, was superb. And Sid Vicious played bass on just one track.
In response to the development where he became the public figure of the band following his departure, Matlock expressed indifference. He elaborated, “I had my hands full with my Rich Kids project, which consumed me immediately post-Pistols. Unfortunately, that venture didn’t quite take off as planned, but I found myself touring with Iggy Pop for a couple of years, working on his 1980 album ‘Soldier’, and performing in both America and Europe.
