Lindsay Lohan Wonders Why She Wasn’t Protected at Height of Fame

Lindsay Lohan wishes people would’ve had a clue about what she was going through in the aughts. 

Now 39, and almost two decades after intense public scrutiny of her life and career, she admitted that being a Hollywood star at her peak was incredibly stressful and all-consuming.

Lindsay Lohan recently told Vogue Arabia that she regrets not taking her parents, Dina and Michael Lohan’s, advice to move back to New York. She explained that as a young person, she was determined to live in Los Angeles and didn’t fully understand the challenges that came with it. While she had some fun, she acknowledges that being young in the spotlight was difficult and had both positive and negative aspects.

Lindsay Lohan, remembering her teenage years alongside friends like Paris Hilton and Britney Spears, often wondered why no one intervened to shield them from the intense scrutiny of the tabloids. She explains, “When you’re a teenager, you don’t even know how to protect yourself from something like that.”

Ultimately, the noise of her Hollywood life was what led her to leave the spotlight altogether. 

She explained that she’d stopped enjoying her work and wasn’t finding fulfilling roles. She realized it wasn’t the life she wanted, and felt disconnected from reality. That feeling led her to move across the globe, a decision she’s now very happy she made, trusting her instincts.

After having her son Luai, now two, with her husband Bader Shammas, Lindsay returned to acting in 2022 with a stronger sense of self-assurance and a clear understanding of her limits.

Growing up, I used to be hesitant to share my opinions about characters or get deeply involved in creative projects. Now, I really enjoy that part of the process. I always felt like too many people were influencing my work, pulling me in different directions. Now, it’s empowering to be in control and make my own decisions.

Lindsay Lohan isn’t the only star from the early 2000s looking back on the past. Hilary Duff, who famously had a public disagreement with Lindsay during their peak popularity, recently revealed they’ve put their differences aside and are now friends.

Hilary shared on the Call Her Daddy podcast that Lindsay Lohan approached her at a club and asked if they were okay. Hilary said they were, and Lindsay then suggested taking a shot together, which Hilary agreed to.
