Lindsey Vonn Injured After Crashing in Competition Before Olympics

Lindsey Vonn‘s final race before the Olympics took a shocking turn.

I was absolutely gutted to hear that a major ski star had a terrible crash at the World Cup just a week before the opening of the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics! They had to be airlifted to the hospital, and honestly, it’s a really worrying time for all of us fans.

On January 30th in Crans-Montana, Switzerland, Lindsey lost control while trying to land a jump and slid sideways into a safety net. The accident happened as snow was falling during the race.

The woman, 40, had recently had a total knee replacement on her right leg in 2024. After receiving medical care, she was seen walking with a limp and holding her left knee.

After finishing the race, she was lifted to safety by helicopter, with a medic assisting her as they flew over the snowy Swiss Alps. The race was called off following her accident, and worsened weather conditions led to three other top competitors also crashing.

TopMob News has reached out to Lindsey’s reps for comments and has not yet heard back.

After Lindsey ended her race due to a medical issue, her coach, Lund Svindal, provided an update on what happened.

She’s experiencing some pain, so we decided it was best to get her checked out,” he said. “The team physio did an initial assessment, which appeared normal, but he wasn’t completely confident, so further evaluation was a good idea.

It’s still unclear if Lindsey’s injury will keep her from participating in the Winter Olympics. She’s currently planned to compete in the women’s downhill race on February 8th, and also in the Super-G and Team Combined events.

After taking five years off, the skier—the first American woman to win Olympic gold in downhill skiing in 2010—was predicted to perform brilliantly at the Winter Games.

She initially retired in 2019 because years of skiing had severely impacted her body. However, a knee replacement surgery completely changed things. In November 2024, she told The New York Times that she was overjoyed, saying, “I had a smile so wide it was coming through the back of my helmet.”

For Lindsey, picking up her alpine ski poles wasn’t about proving anything to anyone.

She stressed that she wasn’t striving for any particular outcome. She felt grateful for everything she’d accomplished in her career and was happy to be where she was, free from pressure. It felt like she was back to the simple, original connection with the mountain.

While Lindsey recovers with hopes of competing in the 2026 Winter Olympics, here are some other surprising health challenges faced by celebrities.

Lupita Nyong’o, known for her role in 12 Years a Slave, received a diagnosis of uterine fibroids—non-cancerous growths in or around the uterus—in 2014, the same year she won an Academy Award for her performance in the film.

She didn’t reveal her diagnosis until 2025, sharing on Instagram that she had privately struggled with the condition for over ten years.

She explained that growing up, many girls are told that periods are supposed to be painful, and that this pain is just something women have to deal with. This leaves many of us feeling like we’re going through a difficult experience all by ourselves.

“It’s been a really difficult time,” Devine shared on the In Depth With Graham Bensinger podcast in 2025. “I’ve been experiencing spasms all over my body, and doctors told me recently that my condition was life-threatening.”

He mentioned that his pain is intermittent, explaining that his body has some minor imperfections and isn’t quite functioning as it should.

A former contestant on The Bachelor went to the hospital in extreme pain, saying he literally had to crawl because his back hurt so badly. The pain flared up during a road trip he was taking with a friend in an RV.

He described a strange tingling sensation that still lingered in his legs as of March 2025, sharing this on his Trading Secrets podcast. He explained that just a few weeks prior, he was able to squat 295 pounds, but now he can’t even do a single squat without falling over. He compared the feeling to having had a stroke.

But with the help of a back specialist and some steroids, he added, “We’re on the mend.”

I was shot in the face at a party because someone fired a gun recklessly in the wrong direction,” she explained in an Instagram post. “Brendan Rooney quickly helped me, checked my injuries, and drove me to the hospital. I was hit five times, and one bullet narrowly missed my right eye – it was less than an inch away.

Oh my gosh, you guys, I just heard the latest from Sheena! Apparently, a tiny piece of something got stuck behind her eye – can you even imagine?! The doctors said it’s too dangerous to try and take it out right now, but they’re keeping a close watch on her. She said she can still see perfectly, which is SUCH a relief, but I’m seriously worried sick! I just want her to be okay!

She urged everyone to cherish their loved ones and hug them whenever possible, as life is precious and unpredictable.

Amy Schumer is grateful for the internet, despite its often harsh nature, because it helped her discover a health issue. After noticing online comments about her “puffy” face during interviews, she was surprised when doctors began commenting, suggesting she might have Cushing syndrome. They pointed out changes in her appearance that concerned them. This led Amy to realize she’d been receiving steroid injections for procedures like a breast reduction and C-section, which could have caused the condition. She wouldn’t have known about it otherwise. Amy recently shared that she’s relieved to learn her type of Cushing syndrome will resolve on its own and that she is healthy – news she called “the greatest imaginable.”

In March 2022, Hailey Bieber experienced a frightening health scare while having breakfast with her husband, Justin Bieber. She suddenly started having stroke-like symptoms, and couldn’t speak or control the right side of her face. Though these symptoms eventually passed, she went to the hospital where doctors discovered she’d had a small blood clot in her brain, which they identified as a TIA (a temporary ischemic attack). Further testing at UCLA revealed Hailey had a hole in her heart called a patent foramen ovale (PFO). Doctors determined the blood clot had traveled through this hole and to her brain, causing the TIA. Hailey has since undergone a successful procedure to close the PFO and is now recovering well.

The same year Hailey faced a health issue, Justin also experienced one. In June 2022, he revealed he had been diagnosed with Ramsay Hunt syndrome, a condition that caused temporary paralysis on one side of his face. This forced him to cancel the remaining dates of his Justice World Tour.

In a video posted to Instagram, Justin explained that the virus affected the nerves in his ear and face, preventing him from blinking, smiling, or moving his nostril on the affected side. He also mentioned it became increasingly difficult for him to eat.

Fortunately, the paralysis eventually went away. Hailey shared on Good Morning America that Justin was recovering well, calling the situation scary but assuring everyone he would be okay and was grateful he was on the mend.

In his 2024 Netflix special, What Had Happened Was…, he explained that he was suffering from a severe headache when he suddenly lost consciousness. He doesn’t remember the next 20 days.

Initially, a doctor gave him a cortisone shot and sent him home, but his sister, Deidra Dixon, was worried and took him to the hospital. There, doctors discovered he had a brain bleed that caused a stroke.

After surgery, Jamie woke up in a wheelchair on May 4th, unable to walk. He then went to Chicago for extensive rehabilitation and therapy. He expressed his gratitude for the prayers he received, saying he needed every single one.

The reality TV star shared that she temporarily stopped breathing while running in the first challenge of the NBC competition show.

A hospital scan revealed she had suffered a subarachnoid hemorrhage, a life-threatening stroke caused by a ruptured aneurysm. She immediately underwent surgery to repair it, but the pain was excruciating. During her recovery, she temporarily lost her ability to speak, often muttering incoherently.

After a week, her speech returned, and she was discharged from the hospital a month later. However, a 2013 scan revealed the aneurysm had grown, requiring a second surgery. This surgery was unsuccessful, causing a major bleed, and doctors warned her chances of survival were low without further intervention. This time, the operation required accessing her brain directly through her skull.

Fortunately, Emilia is now fully recovered and says she is “at a hundred per cent.”

Thankfully, Cori is now recovering well. “I’m doing great,” she said, adding that she’s been working to regain some motor skills, but is otherwise doing fine.

Shailene Woodley struggled with her health throughout her early twenties. In a September 2024 podcast interview, she described a time when she was losing her hearing, couldn’t walk for more than five minutes without needing to rest for hours, and experienced constant stomach pain. She faced conflicting diagnoses from different doctors. Determined to find answers, Woodley, who comes from a holistic background and studies herbalism, sought help from both traditional doctors and alternative healers. This search for well-being lasted for ten years. The physical discomfort led to anxieties around food and eventually, struggles with body image and her sense of self.
