ITV has quietly axed police procedural drama Ridley.
The channel has cancelled the show, starring Adrian Dunbar from Line of Duty, after two seasons that were broadcast in 2022 and 2025.
This crime drama, set in northern England, centers on Detective Alex Ridley (played by Dunbar). He’s pulled out of retirement to help his former colleague, DI Carol Farman, solve a murder. The first season introduces Ridley as a man struggling with immense grief, still reeling from a fire 18 months prior that tragically took the lives of his wife and daughter.
ITV has no plans to revive the show Ridley at this time. They expressed gratitude to creator and writer Paul Matthew Thompson, executive producer Jonathan Fisher, and the team at West Road Pictures for delivering two popular seasons.

When asked about why he took on the role of Alex Ridley, Dunbar explained that the character is complex and different from anything he’s played before. While Ridley shares some similarities with his previous character, Ted Hastings, because they’re both police officers, he’s ultimately a much more nuanced individual.
I was really drawn to the character’s complexity. He has a rich personality and a fascinating past, shaped by all his travels and the challenges he faces. It was those layers of complication that initially grabbed my attention.
While Adrian Dunbar won’t be reprising his role in Ridley, he’s returning as Ted Hastings for season 7 of Line of Duty, with filming scheduled to start this month in Belfast.
Vicky McClure and Martin Compston are also set to reprise their roles in the hit show.
As a huge fan of the show, I’m really excited for the new season! It kicks off with a big shake-up – AC-12 is no more, it’s been replaced by something called the Inspectorate of Police Standards. And right away, the team gets thrown into what they’re calling their most challenging case yet: a fellow officer is facing serious misconduct allegations. It sounds like it’s going to be intense!
Ridley seasons 1 and 2 are available to watch on ITVX.
