It appears that we have reason to be thankful, as it looks like the popular series “Line of Duty” will indeed continue for another installment.
Following numerous rounds of conjecture, whispers, and hypothetical scenarios, it’s been revealed by Line of Duty actor Adrian Dunbar that the BBC series could potentially resume production as early as next year. The BBC has not yet made any official announcements on this matter, but Dunbar himself remains optimistic about its return.
In conversation with The Times, he expressed his enthusiasm, saying, “We can’t wait to read a script from Line of Duty to find out what will happen to us. Jed Mercer is the writer and we’ve been in contact with the BBC about it.
The decision lies with the BBC regarding the announcement about a potential new series next year. We’re hopeful and keeping our fingers crossed, as we believe Jed will come up with intriguing surprises and plot developments.

In an acknowledgment, Dunbar, known for his role as Superintendent Ted Hastings in every season of the BBC drama, admitted that the much-discussed finale missed out on a significant conclusion.
During that period, the finale attracted an astonishing 12 million viewers, yet numerous series enthusiasts still felt it fell just short of their expectations, describing it as somewhat disappointing.
Dunbar admitted, “Discovering it’s this fellow, Buckells, is truly infuriating. There’s a moment where the three of us are informed about the culprit, and we exchange bewildered glances, saying ‘Really?’ We asked Jed to compose that scene because we wanted to convey to our viewers how they might feel.
However, Jed argued that the persistence of police corruption may stem from a single officer choosing not to act on a particular piece of information they encounter.
Just a few months back, it was announced that the shooting schedules for Dunbar, Martin Compston, and Vicky McClure were planned for new episodes, with filming supposedly starting in January 2026.
Ever since then, Compston has noted that if there’s any progress on a new season, it would be quite some time away, given the actors’ hectic schedules.
In a conversation with The Sun, Compston mentioned that they frequently discuss potential plans and timelines. Currently, everyone has their own commitments, which means, regrettably, any project seems to be quite far in the future.
He mentioned: “We place great importance on its quality, and any return visit would stem from genuine motivation, not merely to produce another one. Instead, it will be driven by the belief that there’s an interesting tale to share.
The story primarily focused on a fictitious anti-corruption police unit called AC-12, led by Hastings (portrayed by Dunbar) and Steve Arnott (Compston), with Kate Fleming (McClure) also as a significant character in the role of DI.
Absolutely, since they took over as leads in Line of Duty, each has moved on to act in different projects. Compston is slated to appear in a Paramount Plus thriller titled The Revenge Club, while McClure has recently finished shooting the third season of ITV’s Trigger Point.
