It’s been five years since the last season of Line of Duty aired, but progress on season seven is now moving forward. The cast and crew have recently completed a table read of the new scripts.
I was so excited to see a photo pop up today! It showed Martin Compston, Vicky McClure, and Adrian Dunbar – the original cast – back together, and even better, Robert Carlyle is joining them now too. It’s great to see everyone reuniting for the next season!
The BBC has hinted that filming will start in Belfast in spring 2026, suggesting production will begin very soon – possibly within a few weeks.
After the script was read through, Line of Duty creator Jed Mercurio shared on X (formerly Twitter) that he was very pleased with how the new season is shaping up. He praised Robert Carlyle’s performance at the read-through, and hinted that Steve, Kate, and Ted will face a particularly challenging opponent in the upcoming series.
Compston, McClure, and Dunbar were also in a video posted on social media, excitedly showing off the script. However, it was hard to see any of the actual lines because McClure was quickly flipping through the pages.

As previously announced, Carlyle will join season 7 as Detective Constable Shaun Massie. He’s an experienced sharpshooter and Specialist Rifle Officer who works with the Tactical Operations Unit 7 (TO-7) to combat organized crime.
Massie is a tough, private person who prefers to be alone. However, when his superior, DI Dominic Gough, is accused of sexual assault, Massie’s calm and distant attitude completely shifts.
The new season reveals that AC-12 has been shut down and replaced with a new unit called the Inspectorate of Police Standards.

Fighting corruption is tougher than ever, and now Steve Arnott, Kate Fleming, and Ted Hastings face their most delicate and high-stakes investigation yet.
Detective Inspector Dominic Gough, known for successfully dismantling several criminal organizations, is now facing accusations of using his authority to sexually exploit others. However, some wonder if this scandal is a smokescreen to divert attention from a more dangerous criminal still at large.
