In about two years, the live-action version of The Legend of Zelda is set to premiere, and now we’ve learned who will embody the renowned green-clad character.
After the massive success of The Super Mario Bros Movie in 2023, Nintendo announced they were teaming up with Sony Pictures to create a live-action version of The Legend of Zelda film.
Under the leadership of Wes Ball, who directed The Maze Runner trilogy and 2024’s Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, this project will be overseen by Shigeru Miyamoto, the creator of Zelda, and Avi Arad, a former founder of Marvel Studios.
However, details regarding the manufacturing aspect have been quite transparent, but there’s been no update whatsoever concerning the movie’s cast – that is, until recently.
According to the announcement made by Nintendo, it’s been revealed that Benjamin Evan Ainsworth will portray the character of Link, while Bo Bragason has been cast as Zelda in an upcoming game.
At sixteen years old, Ainsworth has made appearances in contemporary TV shows like “The Haunting of Bly Manor,” as well as movies such as “Flora & Ulysses” and the 2022 reinterpretation of Pinocchio directed by Robert Zemeckis.
In her latest roles, Bragason can be seen as Amy Knightly in The Jetty, Roxy Jackson in Renegade Nell, and Clara Radley in the upcoming 2024 film The Radleys.
Instead of Ainsworth, Bragason previously had a gaming credit under her belt, making an appearance in a supporting role in the 2021 animated movie Kingsglaive: Final Fantasy XV.
Before Bragason’s appointment was official, there were many rumors suggesting that Hunter Schafer might get the part. Many comparisons were made between her and various versions of Princess Zelda, particularly Twilight Princess’s version, highlighting similarities.
It seems that by choosing Ainsworth and Bragason, the film is leaning towards an adaptation of a less grim Zelda tale, potentially targeting a younger demographic once again.
So far, it remains undecided if the upcoming movie will heavily rely on the game’s mythology and narrative, or if the creators are planning to craft a completely fresh storyline instead.
