2026 promises to be a fantastic year for animation, especially Chinese animation, known as donghua. Donghua has quickly gained popularity around the world, with exciting series like Heaven Official’s Blessing and Lord of Mysteries introducing a wider audience to this growing art form.
The recent surge in popularity of Chinese animation, or ‘donghua,’ is largely thanks to series like Link Click – a truly original and captivating show that stands out in animation today. Created by Li Haolin, the highly anticipated third season of Link Click will arrive this fall. But fans won’t have to wait that long for more from this world, as a charming spin-off series is coming in just a few weeks!
Link Click Turns the Age-Old Concept of Time Travel on Its Head
Link Click is a show that consistently surprises and delights viewers with its unique and captivating stories. It centers around Cheng Xiaoshi and Lu Guang, best friends who run a seemingly ordinary photo studio. But their business isn’t what it appears to be – they offer a special service to clients who want to change the past and bend the rules of time.
Lu Guang can see twelve hours into the future of any photograph, and Cheng Xiaoshi can inhabit the bodies of those who took the pictures in the past. Together, they can experience anyone’s memories and sometimes even change their clients’ current lives. However, the show Link Click starts with a very personal touch. The first season mostly features self-contained stories, ranging from solving everyday mysteries like a secret noodle recipe to helping someone deliver final messages to a lost loved one.
Even though they have the incredible ability to travel through time, the characters in Link Click (particularly Lu Guang) strongly believe in letting the past and future unfold naturally. They see themselves as simply observers within other people’s memories, and the show makes it clear how risky it is to interfere with time as the main storyline develops.
This show is like a complex puzzle that slowly reveals its secrets. What begins as an intricate story unfolds into a gripping mystery thriller, but always remains grounded in relatable human experiences. The larger conflict in Link Click – its fight against time and destiny – promises to become even more exciting and expansive in the third season.
Link Click Returns Sooner Than Expected With New Anime Shorts
While Link Click becomes increasingly dramatic and suspenseful with each season, it’s not just about tragedy and thrills. For viewers who enjoy the show’s lighter, everyday moments, there’s The Daily Life in Lightime (also called Link Click Mini-Theater). This is a collection of cute, short episodes featuring Lu Guang, Cheng Xiaoshi, and Qiao Ling as they navigate the more ordinary parts of their lives.
I watched as the first season of the chibi series unfolded, with a new episode appearing each month from October 2021 to March 2023. Now, I’m excited to hear that Link Click Mini-Theater is coming back on April 4, 2026! This time, instead of monthly episodes, we’ll get a new one every Saturday. It sounds like the shorts will continue to be lighthearted and funny, showing what the main trio are up to after the events of the Bridon Arc, and leading up to Season 3.
I’m excited to hear that Xia Fei, Vein, and even the main villain, Liu Xiao, from Bridon Arc will be appearing in the new The Daily Life in Lightime shorts. Even though the shorts have a different feel than the main Link Click series, they’re still considered official parts of the story – we saw that in Season 2 with a lot of references. If you’re a Link Click fan, especially if you like to speculate about what’s coming next, you really shouldn’t miss Link Click Mini-Theater.
Over the years, the creators of Link Click have been fantastic at keeping fans engaged between seasons. They consistently release extra content like music videos, host events both online and in person, and celebrate anniversaries, along with projects like The Daily Life in Lightime. This has created a remarkably strong and well-treated fan community.
Sleeper Hit Donghua Link Click Season 3 Officially Debuts October 2026
The main story continues, with the first part of Season 3 arriving in October. Following the ‘Bridon Arc,’ which showed Lu Guang’s attempt to change Cheng Xiaoshi’s past, the series returns to current events. The unsettling news of Xia Fei’s disappearance stirs up trouble at the Time Photo Studio, and long-hidden secrets from the past start to link with present-day mysteries.
As familiar foes head towards Guidu, a mysterious new detective named Jae Lee will join the main characters. Lee specializes in cases involving supernatural abilities. With everything coming to a head, Link Click Season 3 promises important confrontations and some answers to the show’s biggest mysteries—though it’s sure to create even more questions along the way.
For five years and counting, the series Link Click has captivated fans with its complex story, willingness to try new things, and genuinely thrilling plot centered around Lu Guang and Cheng Xiaoshi. While many other Chinese animated series have gained international attention with their unique stories, Link Click has consistently led the way. If it maintains its current quality, it’s poised to become even more popular in the future.
