“Literally nobody asked for this” — Battlefield 6 just made a huge change to its Conquest mode that nobody wanted, and I’m utterly baffled

Just a few months ago, we didn’t even know the title of the next Battlefield game. Now, it’s here – and it’s a huge hit! Electronic Arts’ (EA) latest large-scale multiplayer shooter is off to an amazing start, with over 750,000 players trying it out on Steam during its first week and critics giving it very positive reviews.

Battlefield 6 has been a hit with players who enjoy the series’ traditional team roles, impressive vehicles, and wide variety of weapons and equipment. However, the game still has some problems.

A common issue is that games of Conquest – Battlefield’s main team-based mode where players capture and control points – often finish simply because the time runs out, rather than one team eliminating all the players on the opposing side.

The Conquest mode in Battlefield 6 introduced a new match timer that’s sparked a lot of debate. As teams lose players, the pressure increases, forcing everyone to play strategically, aim carefully, and take risks to capture objectives – either to turn the tide or clinch a win.

This strict time limit often leads to frustrating endings in otherwise thrilling matches. Games can be decided by a simple count of each team’s remaining chances, even if the losing team was about to make a comeback, which feels unfair and unsatisfying.

As a Conquest player, I’m really happy with the latest changes! The team has lowered the initial ticket count on all the Conquest maps, and it’s making a huge difference. Before, so many matches were dragging on until the timer ran out instead of ending when a team actually lost all their tickets. It feels much more natural now, and I’m excited to see how they continue to tweak things based on player feedback and data. They’re keeping a close eye on everything, which is awesome.

Players have complained about this problem ever since the timer was first announced, so it’s understandable that the Battlefield Studios team has tried to fix it. However, the way they’ve gone about making those fixes is unexpected.

Most players want the match timer in Battlefield 6 to be longer or removed completely. However, the game has instead lowered the number of tickets available at the start of Conquest matches. This change is designed to make games end faster, preventing the timer from running out.

The developers have lowered the number of starting tickets on all Conquest maps to help games end more smoothly. Before, matches often reached the time limit instead of finishing when a team ran out of tickets. The team will continue to watch player feedback and game data to ensure matches flow well.

Here’s a list of all the ticket reductions on each map:

  • Siege of Cairo from 1000 to 900
  • Empire State from 1000 to 900
  • Iberian Offensive from 1000 to 900
  • Liberation Peak From 1000 to 800
  • Manhattan Bridge From 1000 to 800
  • Operation Firestorm From 1000 to 700
  • New Sobek City from 1000 to 900
  • Mirak Valley from 1000 to 700

Battlefield games are known for being long, intense, and offering exciting opportunities for teams to come back from behind. So, it’s really disappointing – and the strong negative response from players proves it – that Battlefield Studios is making these games shorter.

A popular post on the Battlefield subreddit, titled “Literally nobody asked for this,” expresses frustration with a recent change. One commenter explained they’ve repeatedly reached the time limit during gameplay and finds it annoying, stating they prefer longer matches lasting around 25-30 minutes with 1000-1500 tickets.

FPS creator MoiDawg believes the best fix would be to remove the time limits in Conquest mode. He feels these limits prevent exciting comebacks and ruin close matches. “I expect a Conquest game to last longer than 20 minutes,” he explained, calling the current situation a major disappointment.

As a long-time Battlefield player, I’ve always loved those long, intense matches where the score is close and anything can happen – those games where a comeback always feels possible. So, it’s really disappointing to hear that Battlefield Studios is making those matches shorter. It honestly feels like a step in the wrong direction.

Community member Klobrille suggested simply removing the time limit or increasing it. They questioned the current approach, explaining that players enjoy lengthy, immersive matches in Conquest mode.

The developers have only fixed the surface-level problems, not the root cause, which will significantly hinder the chance for really close, exciting matches – the kind that make Battlefield so memorable.

It’s really disappointing to see these changes, and I hope Battlefield Studios reconsiders them, either by lengthening or removing the timer altogether. I get why they want to prevent extremely long matches – players shouldn’t have to leave and lose progress – but 25 to 30 minutes isn’t too long, and it’s been the usual length for Battlefield games in the past.
