Disney is continuing its trend of live-action remakes with a new version of Tangled. The movie will retell the story of Rapunzel and Flynn Rider (also known as Eugene Fitzherbert), and stars Teagan Croft and Milo Manheim as the leads. Michael Gracey is directing.
Since the first movie came out in 2010, Flynn has become a popular character known for his witty remarks and unexpectedly touching moments. Because of this, fans have been eagerly anticipating who would take on the role. Now that Manheim has been cast, the conversation has changed – some people are thrilled, while others are worried about how he’ll portray the character.
Instagram artist and creator @braeden.obrien shared a video showcasing their drawing of actor Milo Manheim as Flynn Rider from “Tangled,” set to the song “I See The Light.” The artwork, which noted the resemblance between Manheim and the animated character, quickly gained a lot of excited reactions from fans. One commenter wrote, “The movie isn’t even being filmed yet, and people are already obsessed!”
The actor quickly shared his enthusiasm on Instagram after it was announced he’d been cast. In a story, he wrote he was “too grateful for words” and promised to do the role justice.
Zachary Levi, who originally voiced Flynn, shared his support for the new casting. He commented on Milo Manheim’s Instagram post, saying, “Congrats, Milo! Now go do Eugene Fitzherbert proud.” Disney’s official Instagram account also joined in, playfully writing, “Here comes the smolder!”
Chandler Kinney has worked with Disney before, appearing in the Zombies movies with Meg Donnelly. Savannah Welch is known for playing Rachel Roth/Raven in the series Titans, and often shares singing videos online. While Mother Gothel hasn’t been cast yet, Kathryn Hahn, who starred as Agatha in WandaVision, is rumored to be a possibility.
While a specific release date isn’t known yet, the remake of Tangled is planned to start filming in the UK around the middle of 2026.
