Live-Action Tomb Raider Series Reveals Major Cast Details (Including Sigourney Weaver’s Mystery Role)

Lara Croft is making a comeback with two new games and a live-action TV series. Amazon MGM Studios is developing the series, and Sophie Turner will star as Lara Croft. While some actors were previously announced, Prime Video has now revealed the complete cast and who they’ll be playing, including a role for Sigourney Weaver.

We already knew Kate Weaver and Jason Isaacs would be in the show, and now Prime Video has released more details. Isaacs will play Atlas DeMornay, Lara’s uncle, and Weaver will be Evelyn Wallis. Wallis is a secretive and ambitious woman who seems interested in taking advantage of Lara’s abilities, making her a potentially unpredictable character.

I was really excited to see the cast announcements! Martin Bobb-Semple is taking on the role of Zip, Lara’s friend and the go-to guy for all things tech. And Bill Paterson is perfect as Winston, the Croft family’s loyal butler – both characters I’ve known and loved from the games. It’s great to see those familiar faces, but it sounds like there are a bunch of brand new characters being introduced too, which is really promising!

The Live-Action Tomb Raider Series Will Introduce New Characters and A New Adversary

The show already features characters like Zip, Atlas, and Winston, but it will also introduce many new faces. One of these is Sasha, played by Sasha Luss, who will be Lara’s newest opponent. Described as strong and highly competitive, it’s unclear whether Sasha is a full-fledged villain or simply a rival seeking to prove she’s the superior explorer and treasure hunter.

The cast also includes Jack Bannon as Gerry, Lara’s pilot and the person who keeps everyone supplied with snacks. August Wittgenstein plays Lukas, a dangerous raider with a surprising connection to Lara’s past. Finally, John Heffernan is David, a weary government worker who unexpectedly gets drawn into Lara’s world.

Ceila Imrie plays Francine, the British Museum’s head of fundraising, who’s largely concerned with securing donations and enjoying champagne. Joseph Paterson stars as Thomas Warner, a government official tasked with fixing a problematic situation. Juliette Motamed plays Georgia, a dedicated museum curator committed to preserving historical artifacts.

Turner is thrilled to be adapting the popular Tomb Raider story for the screen. They’ve been a fan of the franchise and Lara Croft for years, admiring how she confidently navigates a traditionally male-dominated world and serves as a strong role model for women.

Phoebe Waller-Bridge commented on the characters in the new Tomb Raider project, saying she was excited to include both well-loved favorites and some fresh, new faces. She described the cast as being ‘beyond my wildest dreams!’

The Tomb Raider series currently has no release date.
