Liza Minnelli just wants the world to dance and be innovative.
That’s why the artist, who has won an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony award, is promoting her first new song in 13 years, “Kids Wait Till You Hear This.” The song was created with the help of a company that specializes in cloning voices using artificial intelligence.
On January 22nd, Liza shared a joyful Facebook post, saying she was incredibly happy and excited. She announced the release of her first electronic dance music single since her work with The Pet Shop Boys. The single is available through @elevenlabsio, a large and innovative technology company specializing in electronic music.
She also mentioned that Matthew McConaughey was one of the company’s first investors, calling it a smart move. However, she firmly stated she won’t permit the company to replicate or imitate her voice in any way.
The 79-year-old clarified that her voice isn’t created by artificial intelligence, and the company isn’t using it unlawfully or infringing on her rights as an artist.
She revealed that the arrangements for her new dance track, ‘Kids Wait Till You Hear This’ – a preview of her upcoming book – were created using AI. However, she clarified that the vocals were not AI-generated, and some online critics hadn’t bothered to verify the information with her or her collaborators. She confirmed that all the acknowledgements within the track are her own. She then encouraged her fans to listen to the song, enjoy it, and celebrate with her as she launches her book, playfully suggesting they ‘shake their pretty buns’ while imagining a runway show.

“Kids Wait Till You Hear This” is a dance song where Liza speaks instead of sings, set to a techno beat. It’s part of a new album called The Eleven Album from ElevenLabs, which also includes music from Art Garfunkel of Simon & Garfunkel and singer-pianist Michael Feinstein. All three artists combine their classic styles with sounds created using artificial intelligence.
Liza clarified why she chose to collaborate with the organization, stating she appreciated their decision to work with her directly, rather than simply creating a digital copy of her image.
The singer of “Cabaret” recently shared with NBC News that they’ve always seen music as a way to connect with others and express genuine emotion. They were drawn to this particular project because it allowed them to use their voice in a new and creative way, enhancing their artistic expression rather than replacing it. The project prioritizes the artist’s unique voice, creative decisions, and control over their work.
