Robert Carradine‘s loved ones are mourning a heartbreaking loss.
I was so saddened to hear about the passing of a truly versatile actor. He brought so much to the screen in classics like Revenge of the Nerds, the beloved Lizzie McGuire, and even The Long Riders. He was 71, and his family has shared the news. It’s a real loss for the entertainment world, and my thoughts are with his loved ones.
The family of Robert Carradine announced with deep sorrow that he has passed away, according to a statement released to Deadline on February 23rd. They described him as a source of light and positivity in a sometimes difficult world, and acknowledged his courageous fight with bipolar disorder, which he battled for almost twenty years. They are heartbroken by the loss of this kind and beautiful person.
They expressed hope that his story would help reduce the shame surrounding mental health issues. They also requested privacy as they mourn this devastating loss, and thanked everyone for their kindness and support.
I was really touched to hear Robert’s brother, Keith Carradine, share that our family wanted people to understand what Robert went through. He emphasized something so important – that there’s absolutely no shame in dealing with bipolar disorder, and we wanted others to know that too.
Keith shared that his brother lost a battle with illness, but he wants to remember and honor him for his strength and beautiful spirit. He described his brother as incredibly talented and said they would deeply miss him. He found comfort in remembering his brother’s humor, wisdom, and unwavering acceptance of others, adding, ‘That’s who my baby brother was.’

Following his death, Robert, father to actress Ever with Susan Snyder, and to Marika and Ian with Edith Mani, was fondly remembered by those who worked with him, including his Lizzie McGuire colleague Hilary Duff.
It’s always so tough when you lose someone, and this one really hit me hard. I was heartbroken to hear about Bobby McGuire’s passing, and I shared my feelings on Instagram the other day. The McGuire family always radiated such warmth, and I’ll always cherish the way his on-screen parents made me feel so cared for – I’m incredibly grateful for that. It’s just so sad to think he was struggling, and my heart goes out to him, his family, and everyone who loved him. It’s a reminder to reach out and check on the people you care about.
It really got to me when Jake Thomas, who played Hilary Duff’s little brother on the show, shared that he was heartbroken too. It just shows how much of an impact everything is still having on all of us who loved the series.
Jake shared on social media that he’d known Bobby almost his whole life, describing him as a genuinely cool person. He was known for being funny, down-to-earth, and a bit quirky, though he could be grumpy at times. Bobby was also a gifted actor, musician, and director.
More than anything, he was family,” Jake said. “I have so many great memories with him and his family over the years—good times, tough times, and a lot of laughter. I really looked up to him when I was growing up, and as I got older, I realized what a wonderful person he was.
