While it’s exciting to think about more adventures in the Lollipop Ch chainsaw universe, the fact that creator James Gunn and director Suda51 won’t be involved this time around might understandably raise some concerns.
However, a remark from Dragami Games seems unaware of its own irony, as they assert that they won’t overly limit creativity under the banner of promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion.
In a generous interpretation, it seems like the developer may be intending to stay faithful to the essence of the original game. However, given that the classic version, recently updated for PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4, was inherently quite rebellious, we’re left questioning whether they truly grasp the core ethos of the series.
Here’s what the full statement reads:
In a robust collaboration between Nada Holdings and Dragami Games, they’re currently working on a fresh Lollipop Chainsaw installment, which aims to maintain the charm of the original while adding new elements. They are dedicated to upholding the essence of the original game, with some key team members from the previous project joining the development. Moreover, this new project is being developed by taking fan suggestions into account.
Just like the initial version, the new title intends to rebuild a world brimming with dark wit. While developing it, we’ll focus on preserving the unique tone and essence of the original piece. We won’t impose overly strict creative limitations for DEI purposes, but rather aim to maintain a balance that respects and enhances the diversity, equity, and inclusivity within our work.
Essentially, we’re eager to follow along with heroine Juliet Starling’s tale again; however, sandwiched between the disorganized remake of the initial story and this assertion, we’ll surely require a substantial amount of persuasion.
I’m crossing my fingers that the fresh game and animation will be successful, as this series has always shown great promise and it’s high time we shine it up again after a prolonged absence.
