I’ve been completely hooked on Vince Gilligan’s Pluribus ever since it came out last November, but honestly, it’s been bumped from my number one spot! A really fantastic spy thriller just came back, and it’s taken over. The third season dropped on January 9th and immediately shot to the top of Apple TV’s global charts – it’s that good!
Apple TV+’s Pluribus quickly became its most popular show ever, but it was recently overtaken by Tehran. New episodes of Tehran will be released weekly, with the season finale arriving on February 27th. Originally debuting in Israel in December 2024, the series is now a global hit, currently ranking number one in 68 countries. Here’s what the show is about:
Tamar is a Mossad agent skilled in hacking who goes undercover in Tehran with a fake identity, tasked with sabotaging Iran’s nuclear reactor. When the mission goes wrong and she’s unable to return home, Tamar must devise a dangerous plan that puts her family and friends at risk.
The show launched in September 2020 to widespread critical acclaim, earning a 94% score from critics and an 85% audience rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Reviewers called it a skillfully crafted geopolitical thriller that successfully blends international events with personal stories. Though the first episode was initially confusing for some viewers, Michael Starr of the New York Post noted that the show quickly finds its momentum once the plot becomes clearer, becoming a thrilling and fast-paced experience.
‘Tehran’ Enlists a Strong Cast in a Timely Story

Apple TV/Everett Collection
Created by Moshe Zonder, Dana Eden, and Maor Kohn, the show Tehran effectively showcases the talents of its cast. This includes Hollywood star Glenn Close, who joined in Season 2 as British Mossad agent Marjan Montazami, alongside Niv Sultan, Shaun Toub, Navid Negahban, Shervin Alenabi, and Liraz Charhi. Hugh Laurie, known for The Night Manager, will appear in Season 3 as Eric Peterson, a South African nuclear inspector.
The show has consistently done well in its first two seasons, and after a four-year break, fans are excited to see it return. Early signs suggest the new season might be worth the wait.
The first three reviews of Season 3 are all positive. Ed Power from The Daily Telegraph calls the season “an absorbing return by one of the best thrillers around,” and Abe Friedtanzer of Awards Buzz praises the show’s consistently fast-paced and engaging storytelling. Peter Martin at ScreenAnarchy acknowledges that some plot twists are far-fetched, but notes that the actors deliver convincing performances.
