While many franchises are successful, the Wizarding World stands out. The Harry Potter films boosted the popularity of J.K. Rowling’s books, and the universe has since grown to include spin-off stories, theme parks, stage productions, video games, and other experiences. A new TV show based on the books is currently being filmed, and it appears one of my favorite characters, Lucius Malfoy, will be introduced early on.
Details about the upcoming Harry Potter TV series are constantly emerging as filming for the first season progresses. Recently, Johnny Flynn was announced as the actor taking on the role of Lucius Malfoy, previously played by Jason Isaacs. Interestingly, Lucius doesn’t typically appear until the second book and film, The Chamber of Secrets. Flynn shared his initial experiences with The Standard, describing them as very positive.
I’m really enjoying this! I haven’t done much yet, but as a longtime fan of the stories and books, I’m thrilled to be involved. I have fond memories of reading these books as a teenager, and my kids loved them too, so it’s incredibly special to me to be a part of this project.
Even though Lucius Malfoy is a major villain in the Harry Potter series, the actor playing Flynn seems incredibly excited about his role. I’ve always been interested in Draco’s family, so I’m really looking forward to seeing Lucius appear earlier in the new TV show. I can’t wait to see that complicated and dark family dynamic play out!

HBO Max offers streaming access to the entire Harry Potter series, along with thousands of other movies, shows, and documentaries. Plans begin at $10.99 per month (with ads). See the deal here.
Replacing Jason Isaacs as Lucius Malfoy will be a challenge – he played the role brilliantly in all five Harry Potter movies. However, the new TV series will likely give us a much deeper look at the character, as each book will be explored over an entire season. As a longtime fan, I’m really looking forward to it!

Details about the upcoming Harry Potter series have been gradually revealed, sparking lots of discussion among fans old and new. Chris Columbus, who directed some of the original films, has said the show’s costumes are too similar to the movies, and every actor announced for a role quickly becomes a trending topic. There’s also exciting news, like the casting of Jon Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore, which has generated a lot of positive reaction.
Fans who deeply love the Harry Potter books are excited about the TV series, hoping it will be a more accurate retelling of the story. The movies had to shorten the books considerably, leaving out characters and entire storylines to fit the time constraints.
You can now watch all of the Harry Potter movies on HBO Max. The streaming service will also be where the new Harry Potter TV series eventually lands, but fans will need to be patient – it’s not scheduled to premiere until 2027.
