Today is exciting news for Diablo players, whether you’ve been playing consistently through all ten seasons or took some time off. I personally stopped playing after Season 7 because I was feeling burnt out, especially with the new Reliquary battle pass. Today’s developer stream, called a Campfire Chat, is particularly important because it reveals a major update many are calling Loot 3.0 – something Blizzard has been hinting at for months. Interestingly, the Diablo team chose to share this news through an interview with Rhykker, a very popular figure and streamer within the Diablo community, rather than on their usual channels.
Although players generally enjoyed Season 10, many see the next update as a critical turning point for Diablo 4. It includes major gameplay improvements that the community has asked for since the game launched. The big question is whether these changes will entice returning players, like myself, to start playing again. The update permanently alters key parts of the game, such as how items work, how monsters fight, and how you progress, and it also brings back leaderboards! Here’s a rundown of what we know about the upcoming Public Test Realm (PTR) for Season 11.
The return of the Lesser Evils

Sanctuary is under attack by the Lesser Evils! Andariel, Duriel, and Belial have returned, and Diablo 3 players will be excited to see Azmodan make his comeback – hopefully with all of his memorable lines. Azmodan is the first new World Boss added to the game since it launched. Each of these Lesser Evils is now invading a different part of the game as they try to conquer Sanctuary.
- Duriel infects Helltide with new maggot-themed horrors and summonable Pangs of Duriel.
- Belial twists The Pit, creating illusions and clone enemies, and can replace the final boss entirely.
- Andariel haunts the Kurast Undercity, spawning shades, cursed beacons, and deadly afflictions.
- Azmodan appears as a roaming World Boss which is a permanent addition to the game, but he will also have a seperate seasonal activity in Hawezar.
Beating these enemies gives you Corrupted Essences, which you can use to unlock special rewards related to each demon. The developers also confirmed that Duriel will be taking the place of the Blood Maiden in Helltide events.
Earn Divine Gifts from the High Heavens in Season 11

To counteract the growing demonic threat, the archangel Hadriel (known from Diablo 2) is introducing Divine Gifts. These are new benefits that improve your loot and gameplay, earned by defeating the Lesser Evils.
Each Gift can be either ‘Purified’ or ‘Corrupted,’ letting you choose between an easier experience with greater rewards, or a more challenging one that still offers bonuses. This system is similar to the mindcages from past seasons, which allowed players to adjust the game’s difficulty.
Defeating each Lesser Evil will reward you with unique Essences, unlocking themed Gifts – for example, faster potion refills from Duriel or extra gold from Belial.
The developers addressed concerns about repeatedly adding ‘new powers’ to Diablo 4, acknowledging past criticisms. They clarified that while this system *looks* similar to previous seasons, the approach is different. They emphasized that these are ‘seasonal Gifts,’ not ‘seasonal powers,’ and that they are striving for more variety in each new season.
Complete overhaul for Tempering and Masterworking (the real Loot 3.0 update)

Diablo 4’s crafting system received a major update in Season 4, representing the most significant change to Tempering and Masterworking yet. Based on player feedback, these processes have been reworked, and a welcome change means you can no longer ruin a perfect item through Tempering. Here’s a breakdown of everything that’s new with Tempering and Masterworking:
- Tempering now lets you choose the exact affix from a recipe. No more relying on RNJesus.
- Each item can only have one tempered affix, but you can restore Tempering Charges indefinitely.
- Masterworking no longer buffs affixes directly. Instead, it improves a new stat, ‘Quality’, which will directly impact item damage, armor, or resistances.
- Once maxed at Quality 20, you can add a Capstone bonus, converting one normal affix into a Greater Affix.
- Non-unique items now roll four base affixes instead of three.
Great news! You won’t have to start over completely when trying to get the exact stats you want when Masterworking. This new system gives you much more control over creating your ideal character build, and avoids frustrating, endless random rolls. There will be a cost to rerolling stats, and the developers are still figuring out the details.
Sanctification, Angelic power for your gear

As a long-time player, I’m really excited about this new endgame feature! Basically, you can now take any item you love and ‘Sanctify’ it using something called the Heavenly Anvil – it’s like giving it a boost of angelic power. What’s cool is that Sanctification can…
- Add a bonus Legendary power
- Upgrade an affix into a Greater Affix
- Make an item completely indestructible
However, there’s a limitation: once an item is Sanctified, you can’t change it anymore – it’s its ultimate, perfected state. You’ll need a special item called a Heavenly Sigil to Sanctify items, and these will be obtainable through playing the game in various ways.
Monster Combat “evolved”
Enemy behavior is getting smarter, so expect monsters encounters to be more dynamic in-game.
- Monsters will now coordinate attacks and adapt mid-fight.
- Over 20 new elite affixes have been added.
- Champion enemies now spawn as packs, and elites can bring empowered minions.
Battles in the game will now be more challenging and feel less predictable throughout the world. The developers made this change to increase the difficulty, and they’ve also improved the enemy AI to make fights more dynamic.
Defense, Healing, and Renown reworked
Blizzard is updating how character survivability works with a new stat called Toughness. This stat combines the effects of Armor and Resistances, giving players a clearer picture of how durable their character is. While Armor and Resistance no longer have upper limits, their effectiveness will decrease as the values get extremely high. Here are some other important changes:
- Armor now mitigates all damage types, not just physical.
- Potions now instantly heal 35% of your HP (and slowly recharge every 30 seconds).
- Fortify becomes a healing-over-time buffer rather than a static damage reduction.
- Renown in Seasonal play is being replaced by a Season Rank system — complete Capstones and objectives to earn skill points, cosmetics, and more.
The Tower & Leaderboards (Beta)

As a Diablo 4 player, I’m really excited about the new ‘Tower’ dungeon! It’s designed to be a serious challenge – a timed run where you can really put all your skills and character builds to the test. Think of it as the ultimate way to see how far you’ve progressed from a fresh level 1 character to a powerful endgame hero.
- Complete as many floors as possible within 10 minutes to earn leaderboard rankings.
- Each run features randomized layouts, new enemy tactics, and powerful temporary buffs from Pylons.
- Global Leaderboards return for the first time in Diablo 4 with categories by class, party size, and mode (Hardcore/Normal).
The game’s leaderboard will show players from all platforms, but you can narrow the results to see only PC, console, or just your friends. This feature is currently being tested on the PTR and will be available to everyone in future seasons.
Return of Capstone Dungeons

In Diablo 4, completing challenging Capstone Dungeons used to be the way to unlock higher world difficulties. These were temporarily replaced with a system involving fighting levels in The Pit, but they’re back with Season 11! Some Capstone Dungeons will even change each season as part of new activities.
This change also affects how you progress through Seasons. You’ll now need to complete Capstone Dungeons to advance in Seasonal ranks. The best part? You can attempt them at any level – even level 1 – so you don’t need to be high-level to participate!
In short…
Diablo 4’s PTR 2.5.0 is the most significant update since the Loot 2.0 changes in Season 4. It completely revamps the loot system, improves combat AI, introduces new endgame activities, and finally adds Leaderboards. Blizzard also hinted at even more changes coming beyond the next season, suggesting exciting new content is in development – possibly a new expansion or class, with a reveal expected around Blizzcon in November. Whether you’re a dedicated player or haven’t played since Season 7, this update has the potential to greatly improve the Diablo 4 experience and make the game feel fully realized.
