CI Games showcased the first gameplay trailer for Lords of the Fallen 2 at The Game Awards 2025, and creative strategist Ryan Hill recently shared additional details. In an interview with IGN, Hill discussed the main character, Oemuras, the story of the sequel, and the game’s combat system, which includes a dismemberment feature.
According to Hill, the story in Lords of the Fallen 2 will aim for a good balance: it will be easy to follow and focus on characters, but also include the detailed world-building often found in Soulslike games. This means both players who want a straightforward experience and those who enjoy uncovering hidden lore will find something to appreciate.
For the new game, we aimed to create a story that’s easier to follow and focuses more on the characters, while still keeping the rich environmental storytelling that fans of challenging action games enjoy. We want dedicated players to be able to explore the deep backstory if they choose, but we also want all players to understand the story and how their actions impact the world by the time they finish the game, explained Hill.
Hill discussed a key new feature in Lords of the Fallen 2: dismemberment. Players will be able to cut off enemy limbs during gameplay. He explained that this feature was added because fans wanted the game to be even more graphic and intense. Hill also confirmed that any limb on any enemy can be severed.
I’m so hyped for the new Lords of the Fallen! The developers actually asked the community how much gore we wanted, and the response was a resounding ‘give us everything!’ They really want this game to be for mature players and aren’t holding back on the dark, intense stuff. As a Soulslike fan, I love a tough challenge, and that feeling when you finally beat a hard enemy is amazing. They’re taking that even further with a system where you can actually tear enemies apart instead of just seeing them fall – it’s going to make victory feel so much more satisfying!
Regarding the differences between the original Lords of the Fallen and the upcoming sequel, the developer acknowledged the first game has received many updates since launch, including the recent version 2.5, which helped improve it over time. For Lords of the Fallen 2, the studio plans to be consistently involved with its player community right from the start.
We started listening to our community’s feedback for the sequel right away to understand what they wanted to see next. Our recent gameplay trailer shows how we’ve incorporated that feedback, with a more diverse game world, unique and challenging boss fights, and a more immersive experience in the Umbral realm.
The highly anticipated game, Lords of the Fallen 2, is scheduled for release on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S in 2026. The game’s minimum PC specifications were previously announced earlier this year.
