Revenge stories are often captivating and thought-provoking, and they’re a natural fit for comics. Many superhero tales are fundamentally about vigilantes taking the law into their own hands, even if they’re heroes. Now, Curt Pires, the creator of Lost Fantasy, is launching a new, intensely violent revenge story through Kickstarter – one that promises a level of intensity only possible through the platform.
A new graphic novel called The Objectivist, a dark and gritty vigilante story, is launching on Kickstarter soon. Created by Pires, Alex Diotto, and Luca Casalanguida, the campaign begins March 17th and will feature stunning cover art by Eisner Award-winning artist Jae Lee. The Objectivist Will Deconstruct Everything We Know About Superheroes (And Subjective Truth)

Labeled a groundbreaking graphic novel, The Objectivist challenges the typical superhero story by exploring the dark side of vigilantism and the dangers of believing everyone has their own truth. The story follows a lone vigilante whose fight against corruption leads to a loss of his own sanity. As his beliefs are questioned, his violent mission begins to fall apart. The narrative draws inspiration from classic noir comics like The Question, Sin City, and Batman: Year One, as well as the work of Steve Ditko, particularly Mr. A.

Pires explained that this comic was created with complete creative freedom. It wasn’t subject to any oversight from publishers or committees, allowing for a raw and honest exploration of classic noir themes. Pires sees it as both a tribute to the dark, atmospheric stories of their youth and a critical look at the underlying messages those stories conveyed. They believe a project this unfiltered could only have been made possible through crowdfunding on Kickstarter.
Writer Pires is gaining momentum with a string of new projects. This week, Image Comics revealed Pires is collaborating with musician Franklin Jonas and artist Patrick Mulholland on a new ongoing series called Fireborn, which takes place in the same universe as their previous work, Lost Fantasy. The series will be available in April. Pires also recently launched Galactic, a unique science fiction adventure, with artist Amilcar Pinna through DSTLRY.

Here’s a quick update on The Objectivist. If you join the mailing list, you’ll be the first to know when it’s released. The book will be available in hardcover and as an ebook on Neon Ichiban. We’ll share details about Kickstarter rewards soon.
