Lost icon cast in major role in God of War TV series as streaming giant’s adaptation grows starry line-up

Sonya Walger, known for her role in ‘Lost,’ will appear in the new ‘God of War‘ TV series coming to Prime Video.

Amazon’s Prime Video will be creating a series based on the 2018 reboot of the popular game franchise, focusing on the stories inspired by Norse mythology.

Walger will play Freya, the goddess of love, in the show, and will star alongside Ryan Hurst as Kratos, Callum Vinson as Atreus, and Ed Skrein as the villain Baldur.

Sonya Walger is well-recognized for her role as Penny Widmore on the TV series Lost, but she’s also been in shows like For All Mankind, The Mind of the Married Man, and FlashForward.

In Walger’s story, Freya is a Vanir goddess with a powerful past: she used to be queen of the Valkyries and was once married to Odin.

She’s a skilled magic user from the Vanir, but a curse has banished her to Midgard. This curse prevents her from hurting anyone, leaving her unable to fight or protect herself.

After being exiled, she lives alone in the forests of Midgard, helping Kratos and Atreus. People fear her, and commonly call her the Witch of the Woods.

Walger is the newest addition to the cast, joining Hurst, Vinson, and established actors like Ólafur Darri Ólafsson (known for his role in Thor), Teresa Palmer (as Sif), Max Parker (playing Heimdall), Alastair Duncan (as Memir), Jeff Gulka (as Sindri), and Danny Woodburn (as Brok).

God of War, released in 2018 by Sony, tells the story of Kratos, who now lives among Norse gods. He embarks on a journey with his son, Atreus, to honor his deceased wife’s final request: to have her ashes scattered from the highest point in all of the Nine Realms.

Amazon has ordered another season of God of War. Ronald D. Moore, known for his work on Outlander, will be overseeing the show, and Frederick E.O. Toye, the director of Shōgun, will direct the first two episodes.
