Lost Star Finally Addresses Perfect Spider-Man: Brand New Day Villain Fancasting

Daniel Dae Kim, known for his role on “Lost”, expresses his thoughts on being a fan favorite for the part of Mister Negative in the upcoming “Spider-Man: Brand New Day“. In an interview with Screen Rant to promote his new series “Butterfly”, Kim acknowledged the enthusiasm surrounding him playing the villain. Although he hasn’t had any discussions with Marvel about the role, he values the support from fans who are advocating for him to take on the character. It seems that if Marvel were to reach out, he would be ready and willing to accept the challenge.

For around half a year now, Kim has been picking up whispers about the topic, and they’ve also caught sight of it. They’ve noticed that there’s a desire among people for Asian actors to take on this role, and they’re glad to be part of the discussion. However, they haven’t received any concrete information yet… It’s intriguing. Whenever there’s an interesting part or project, Kim is always ready to jump in.

Mister Negative, also known as Martin Li, joined Spider-Man’s rogues’ gallery relatively recently. He debuted in Marvel Comics in May 2007. In the original stories, he’s connected to the Snakehead gang and gains his abilities following experiments by the Maggia. To date, Mister Negative hasn’t been part of a live-action film, but he has shown up in various other formats. One particularly notable instance is Insomniac’s Spider-Man video game series for PlayStation.

The movie titled “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” is being made right now, set to hit theaters in July 2026. Not much information about the film has been shared yet, but we do know that Jon Bernthal’s Punisher and Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk will be joining Tom Holland’s Peter Parker on this new cinematic journey. As for the villains, it’s been confirmed that Michael Mando is coming back as Scorpion, who was seen in 2017’s “Spider-Man: Homecoming”. The identity of other possible villains remains a mystery, but fans are speculating that characters like Boomerang and Tarantula might make an appearance too.

In the comics, Mister Negative has been both a foe of the Punisher and a partner to Spider-Man, making him an intriguing addition to the “Brand New Day.” While the multiversal story in “Spider-Man: No Way Home” was unique, the other films starring Tom Holland’s Spider-Man consistently introduced new villains. It would be consistent with this trend for “Brand New Day” to feature a new adversary, given its focus on street-level stories. The alliance between Spider-Man and the Punisher to bring down Mister Negative’s criminal organization, the Inner Demons gang, could offer an exciting change of pace for the franchise. Moreover, Mister Negative’s character presents a rich opportunity for exploration due to his dual identity as Martin Li, a philanthropist known for his charitable efforts through FEAST, and a ruthless crime boss. The contrast between these two aspects of his personality is intriguing and could make for compelling viewing.

Kim would make an ideal fit for the role, possessing the abilities to convincingly portray both the benevolent Martin Li and the menacing Mr. Negative. His casting would add intrigue to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, showcasing a villain with potential to headline a film.
