The universe of The Lord of the Rings is growing with the new movie, The Hunt for Gollum. But an actress known from The Hobbit films has announced she won’t be involved in this latest adventure in Middle-earth.
Evangeline Lilly hasn’t been ‘invited’ to Middle-earth in The Hunt for Gollum
Evangeline Lilly has announced she won’t be reprising her role in the new movie, The Hunt for Gollum. She shared the news with her followers on Instagram.
A fan inquired about the possibility of Evangeline Lilly reprising her role as Tauriel in the upcoming film, especially since she’d previously described the part as a career highlight. Lilly responded with a simple, “Sorry to disappoint, but I wasn’t asked to be in it.” She did mention she had a chance to visit the production crew while they were preparing for the movie in New Zealand and was happy to see them again.
Lilly played the character of Tauriel in The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug and The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies. Tauriel, an elf warrior, wasn’t in J.R.R. Tolkien’s original The Hobbit book; she was created by the filmmakers for the movies.
Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit trilogy was released between 2012 and 2014. These films tell the story that comes before The Lord of the Rings, following Bilbo Baggins as he adventures with a group of dwarves to reclaim their lost home.
The trilogy was a massive success in theaters around the world, captivating audiences with its fantasy setting. The final film, The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies, also earned hundreds of millions of dollars internationally.
A new movie called ‘The Hunt for Gollum’ will continue the story started in J.R.R. Tolkien’s books and the previous films. It’s set to be released in theaters worldwide on December 17, 2027, and will feature a star-studded cast including Kate Winslet, Elijah Wood, Ian McKellen, and Andy Serkis. The film’s story takes place between the events of ‘The Hobbit’ and ‘The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring’ (according to Variety).
