The action platformer *LUCID*, a Metroidvania-style side-scroller, is coming to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC (via Steam) in the first quarter of 2026. This was announced by publisher Apogee Entertainment and developer Matte Black Studio.
Here is an overview of the game, via Apogee Entertainment:
About
LUCID is a fast-paced action platformer taking place in a vibrant, broken world powered by crystals. You play as Oenn, who gains incredible abilities to move and fight, letting you overcome challenging obstacles and defeat diverse enemies and powerful bosses.
LUCID uses beautiful, detailed pixel art combined with modern sound and visuals to create a game that feels both nostalgic and fresh.
Discover your legend, fulfill a solemn promise, and see the world through lucid eyes.
Key Features
- Tight controls are the foundation of LUCID‘s design. As an extension of the player, Oenn is a joy to handle. While you navigate the platforming puzzles and master the airborne combat you will enter the oh-so sought after flow state.
- Intense boss battles! On your quest you will encounter many dangerous foes. These formidable opponents will test your skills and awareness. Use your accumulated knowledge and prowess to conquer these awe-inspiring adversaries and advance further in your quest.
- Learn powerful new abilities known as Crystal Arts, like the Crystal Blade, Crystal Spear, and Crystal Axe! Each Crystal Art modifies mobility and enhances combat in different ways, offering a range of player expression for traversing the world and vanquishing your foes.
- Upgrade your Bracers and Crystal Arts! Collect Crystal Shards and Rare Materials scattered throughout the land. With these resources enhance your Bracers by expanding their Talisman Slots and empower your Crystal Arts by Anointing them.
- Encounter a diverse and vibrant cast of characters, from the close-knit Sentinels in the Petrified Forest to the down-and-out slumdogs of Beacon City. Each character you meet has a story of their own, and it’s up to Oenn to help them restore the balance in their lives as he seeks to heal a fractured world.
- Uncover the mysteries of the world known as Aedyn! Vast and interconnected, you can decide when to ascend the frigid Onyx Ridge, traverse the glittering Crystal Caverns, or descend into the gloom of Welltown. Find and create new paths to biomes thought to be fully completed to obtain new treasures and secrets.
Music
We’re thrilled to announce that David Wise, the composer behind beloved games like *Donkey Kong Country*, *Diddy Kong Racing*, *Star Fox Adventures*, and *Yooka-Laylee*, is creating all-new music for *LUCID*! As a longtime fan, I’m incredibly excited to collaborate with him – his work on those classic games was a huge inspiration for *LUCID*. His atmospheric and emotional style will be a fantastic addition to the game’s soundtrack, and I can’t wait to bring the world of Aedyn to life with his music!
Story
The story of why Troika fell from the sky to attack the Lucid Giant remains a mystery… but does it even matter?
After the ‘Great Fall’ and the destruction of the Lucid Giant Aylo,
the world of Aedyn has succumbed to dissonance.
The Sentinel Order, meant to guard a fragile balance, is dwindling.
You play as Oenn, a promising young Sentinel, tasked with a vital mission: to awaken a fallen Giant and bring balance back to the Celestial Fabric.
