Enthusiasts of David Mitchell eagerly anticipate the premiere of his new sketch show on Channel 4 this coming Friday, and they have received an exciting fresh tidbit about another of his much-loved ventures, titled Ludwig.
The start of filming for the second season of the BBC’s comedy-drama detective series has been confirmed, featuring Mitchell reprising his role along with co-stars Anna Maxwell Martin, Dipo Ola, Dylan Hughes, Dorothy Atkinson, Ralph Ineson, and Karl Pilkington.
Some notable names missing from the announced list of returning characters are DC Simon Evans’s lead actor, Gerran Howell, as well as Izuka Hoyle, who plays Detective Sergeant Alice Finch.
In addition, it has been revealed that the main cast for season 2 will include Mark Bonnar from Dept Q, who will portray the role of newspaper editor Gareth Fisher, and Sian Clifford from Fleabag, who will take on the character of local MP Joanne Kemper.
As a self-proclaimed TV enthusiast, I’m thrilled to share that in this new series, I find myself stepping into the shoes of detective Ethan Cole, portrayed by the talented Ben Ashenden, who you might recognize from Black Mirror. Meanwhile, Rumi Sutton, known for her captivating performance in After the Flood, will be playing my partner on the force, DC Caitlin Sullivan. Together, we’re ready to unravel mysteries and bring justice to the streets!

In the summary for season 2, we find that our beloved puzzle-master, John ‘Ludwig’ Taylor, played by David Mitchell, has taken on a new role as a Crime Scene Advisor. He now assists the Cambridge Police Authority in solving perplexing cases that were previously deemed impossible.
No longer concealing his identity as his brother, he’s more authentic than ever – exceptional at solving conundrums yet inept at everything else. However, John’s identical twin, James, remains absent, and now that he’s officially employed at the station, John is barred from utilizing any law enforcement resources to search for his brother or delve into the investigation he was pursuing.
Indeed, John won’t halt in his pursuit, and neither will Lucy (Anna Maxwell Martin), who is both John’s sister-in-law and the wife of his missing brother James. They are determined to solve this mystery and bring home their husband and father. One masquerade might have concluded, but another has only just started.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter earlier this year, Mitchell mentioned that they aim to continue providing the captivating storyline and weekly mysteries that are resolved, similar to what they’ve done before. He didn’t reveal any additional details, instead choosing to keep information minimal to preserve the element of surprise, which he considers a crucial aspect of entertainment.
