The beloved puzzle game *Lumines* is returning with *Lumines Arise*, developed by Enhance and Monstars. This new version keeps the original’s addictive block-dropping gameplay while adding more vibrant graphics and a fantastic soundtrack. But there’s more to enjoy than just how it looks and sounds.
A recent video showcases new gameplay features, including ‘Burst.’ This mechanic temporarily stops pieces from disappearing after you clear lines, letting you build a higher score. It’s different from the Zone in *Tetris Effect* because, in addition to freezing the board, Burst also lifts nearby blocks of the opposite color into the air before they fall back down.
While it might be challenging, mastering this approach opens up more possibilities. Besides Journey Mode, which tells a story without words, there’s Survival Mode – a non-stop run through all levels with online leaderboards. You can also practice with Training missions, tackle special Challenges, or create your own custom level playlists.
I’m really excited about the game modes! You can play Burst Battle against the computer or with friends, and they’ve added this new one called Dig Down where you have to clear blocks to dig your way down – it sounds super fun!
Lumines Arise launches on November 11th for PlayStation 5 and PC, and it supports VR on PC. You can try a free demo right now on PC during the Steam Next Fest.
