Lupita Nyong’o is getting candid about her health.
For over a decade, the Oscar-winning individual candidly acknowledged enduring in quiet distress. Subsequently, they shared their experiences battling uterine fibroids – benign tumors that can form within or near the uterus.
Lupita shared on her Instagram on July 15th, “In March 2014, I was honored with an Academy Award. The same year, I learned that I had 30 uterine fibroids. After undergoing surgery to remove them, I inquired about ways to prevent their return. My doctor replied, ‘I’m sorry, but it’s inevitable; they will grow back eventually.’
As a woman completely captivated by this subject, I never truly grasped the magnitude of its impact on our kind until I shared my personal journey in hushed tones with my closest confidants.
In her own words, Lupita stated, “During puberty, we learn that having periods equates to pain, and this pain is just something women have to endure. However, what many of us don’t realize is that we’re dealing with this issue individually, as it significantly impacts our lives.
She went on to say, “It’s crucial that we don’t view this significant problem as just a string of unlucky accidents. Instead, let’s resist the tendency to accept women’s suffering as the norm.
The Black Panther actress mentioned that she’s collaborating with members of the U.S. Congress to propose a set of bills aimed at:
1. Boosting research funding related to uterine fibroids.
2. Enhancing early detection and interventions for uterine fibroids.
3. Conducting studies on the causes of uterine cancer.
4. Raising public awareness about these issues.
She proposed a vision of the future emphasizing early education for adolescents, advanced screening methods, rigorous prevention studies, and gentle treatment options for uterine fibroids. Let’s focus on researching women’s health and address this long-ignored chronic condition that deserves thorough investigation.
Lupita added, “We deserve better. It’s time to demand it. Silence serves no one!”
Uterine fibroids can form in women during their reproductive years, but they are more prevalent among Black women compared to other racial groups, as stated by the Mayo Clinic. Most of these fibroids do not cause noticeable symptoms, but potential complications may lead to heavy and painful menstruation, pelvic pressure, urinary issues, difficulties in conceiving, and even miscarriages.
In Lupita’s post’s comment section, numerous friends expressed their backing. Specifically, Kerry Washington commented, “Well done, Lupita. This takes courage and looks stunning.
Halle Berry shared, “This information is crucial to pass on,” while Amber Ruffin promised, “The next time we meet, I’ll regale you with an astonishing fibroid tale!

She wrote on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter, “‘You don’t post on Twitter anymore,'” she said. “Six months ago, I wore such tight pants that they gave me a hernia, and I’ve been too afraid to mention it to you.
Back in April 2025, a former cast member of Beverly Hills, 90210 shared that he was on the mend following an operation due to his appendix being close to rupturing.
A week ago, Brian shared on an Instagram video that he began experiencing abdominal discomfort. This led him to visit the emergency room where they discovered his appendix was perforated, though not fully ruptured yet.

In a 2025 episode of the “In Depth With Graham Bensinger” podcast, Devine expressed that it had been an extremely difficult and harrowing experience for him. He explained that he has been experiencing spasms all over his body and was informed by doctors that his condition was grave – they believed he might not survive beyond the past year.
He mentioned that pain fluctuates, also pointing out, “There are quite a few things about my body that are slightly off balance and not functioning perfectly.
Previously on Bachelor Nation, this cast member revealed that he had to visit the hospital, moving on hands and knees because of intense back pain that worsened during a camping trip with a buddy in an RV.
I’m absolutely floored! Even as I speak, a strange sensation shoots from the tips of my toes up to my knees – it’s mind-blowing, really. To give you some context, let me clarify (though I hate to brag), but just a few weeks, maybe even a month ago, I was pushing 295 pounds in a squat. Now, here’s the kicker – I can’t do a simple squat on one leg. I attempt it and down I go, as if I’ve suffered some sort of unexpected incident, like a stroke or something.
But with the help of a back specialist and some steroids, he added, “We’re on the mend.”

On the next day, the comedian posted an update on social media, explaining it was a matter of food poisoning and he was getting better.
In February 2025, an actress from the series “Even Stevens” revealed that she was accidentally shot in the face during a trip to go clay pigeon shooting to celebrate her husband Brendan Rooney’s birthday.
In a heart-stopping moment at our gathering, another partygoer recklessly discharged their firearm haphazardly, striking me square in the face. Instantly, @thebrendanrooney leapt into action, swiftly evaluating my condition and whisking me off to the hospital. Remarkably, I was hit five times, with one bullet narrowly missing my right eye by less than an inch.
The former Kim Possible cast member went on to explain, “Regrettably, a piece became stuck near my eye, and it’s not safe for surgery right now. My doctors are keeping a close watch on me, but I can see fine for the time being.
The actress expressed her heartfelt gratitude for being alive, stating, “My love for my daughters, husband, family, and friends runs deep.” She recounted a moment where she felt her life pass before her, urging everyone to seize opportunities for embracing the people around them. Life, she stressed, can take unexpected turns in an instant.
In Amy Schumer’s own words, she’s grateful that the internet, despite not always being a friendly place, ended up assisting her in this situation by providing answers. She recounted an instance where after a series of interviews, she jokingly asked everyone to calm down. However, doctors started commenting and suggested that something might be wrong due to her unusual appearance. Amy humorously remarked, “I’m getting trolled by doctors?”
Upon reading the comments about Cushing syndrome, Amy realized she had been receiving steroid injections for scar treatments following surgeries like a breast reduction and C-section. She connected the dots when she noticed symptoms such as rapid weight gain, moon face, and buffalo hump. Amy admitted that without the internet’s harsh scrutiny, she might not have discovered this health issue.
Now, Amy is just relieved to know she’s okay. In a February 2024 News Not Noise newsletter, she expressed her gratitude for learning that the type of Cushing syndrome she has will resolve itself naturally, making her the happiest person imaginable.
In December 2024, a player in the AHL had his skin sewed up with 25 stitches because another player’s skate accidentally sliced him during a game. Later, when the injured player was completely healed, Tom Fitzgerald, the New Jersey Devils general manager, expressed his gratitude to ESPN, stating, “We consider ourselves fortunate. I wouldn’t want such an experience for any parent.
Hailey Bieber experienced a terrifying incident in March 2022 during breakfast with her husband Justin Bieber, as she started exhibiting symptoms similar to a stroke. As she recalled later on YouTube, she became unable to respond properly when asked if she was okay, and eventually lost the ability to speak. Her right side of the face drooped, and she struggled to form sentences.
Despite the temporary resolution of her symptoms, Hailey sought medical attention out of precaution. Doctors discovered a small blood clot in her brain, which they classified as a Transient Ischemic Attack (TIA). Further examination at the University of California, Los Angeles, revealed that she had a hole in her heart known as a patent foramen ovale (PFO).
Hailey explained that the blood clot had passed through the PFO and reached her brain, causing the TIA. She underwent a successful procedure to close the PFO and reported feeling well afterwards.
In the same year that Hailey went through her health ordeal, Justin also faced one of his own. Specifically, in June 2022, Justin revealed that he was diagnosed with Ramsay Hunt syndrome, a condition affecting nerves in his ear and face, leading to temporary facial paralysis and the cancellation of the rest of his Justice World Tour.
In an Instagram video at the time, Justin explained, “The virus attacks the nerve in my ear and my facial nerves, causing paralysis on this side of my face.” As viewers could see, he couldn’t blink with one eye, smile from that side of his face, or move one nostril. The condition made it progressively harder for him to eat, but eventually, the paralysis subsided.
Hailey shared on a June 2022 episode of Good Morning America that Justin was doing well and feeling much better. She emphasized that while it was a terrifying and seemingly random situation, Justin would make a full recovery. Hailey expressed her gratitude that he was okay in the end.
Jamie Foxx initially chose to keep secret the details of his hospitalization in April 2023. However, in his 2024 Netflix special titled “What Had Happened Was…”, he revealed what transpired. One day in Atlanta, he experienced a severe headache and asked for an aspirin from a friend. Before he could get it, he fainted and lost consciousness for around 20 days.
Upon visiting a doctor who administered a cortisone shot and sent him home, his sister Deidra Dixon drove him to a hospital. There, they discovered that he had suffered a brain bleed leading to a stroke. After undergoing surgery on the 20th day, Foxx woke up in a wheelchair on May 4 unable to walk. He then moved to Chicago for rehabilitation and therapy.
“I want to express my gratitude for every prayer,” he said, “because I truly needed them all.
Emilia Clarke, known for her role in Game of Thrones, filmed intense battle scenes but in 2019, she penned an essay titled “A Battle for My Life” in The New Yorker. In her own words, at the gym one day, she was struck with a severe headache that led to vomiting profusely. The pain intensified and she realized her brain was injured.
Rushed to the hospital for a scan, she was diagnosed with a life-threatening type of stroke called subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH), caused by bleeding in the area surrounding the brain. She had an aneurysm, or arterial rupture. The surgery to seal the aneurysm was agonizing for her. During recovery, she suffered aphasia and spoke nonsensical words.
A week later, the aphasia subsided, and she left the hospital after a month. However, in 2013, another brain scan revealed a growth had doubled in size, necessitating another surgery. “When they woke me, I was screaming in pain,” she wrote. The second procedure failed, and the doctors informed her that her chances of survival were slim if they didn’t operate again. This time, they accessed her brain through her skull.
Fortunately, Emilia is now reportedly in perfect health.
In January 2024, Snoop Dogg’s daughter Cori Broadus experienced a severe stroke. Overwhelmed by this health crisis, her family members rallied to her aid immediately. As she shared with TopMob News correspondent Will Marfuggi in December 2024, she informed them about the stroke and sent a picture as well. The entire family promptly came to her rescue.
Cori’s hospital stay extended beyond what was initially anticipated due to other health complications. “I could have returned home after my stroke,” she explained in an interview for ‘Snoop’s Fatherhood: Cori and Wayne’s Story’. However, her lupus wasn’t responding well, and her kidneys were failing. This added to the numerous challenges she faced during recovery.
Currently, Cori is on the path to a full recovery. “I’m doing great,” she confirmed. “There were just some motor skills I needed to rebuild. Other than that, I was okay.
In her twenties, the actress Shailene Woodley experienced numerous health issues, some of which were severe enough to affect her hearing and mobility. She explained on an episode of the SHE MD Podcast in September 2024, “I couldn’t walk for more than five minutes without needing to rest for hours. Everything I ate upset my stomach.” These problems led to a variety of diagnoses from different doctors.
Desiring to understand her condition and seeking solutions, Shailene, who has a background in holistic medicine and herbalism, pursued treatment from both conventional and alternative healthcare providers. This quest for answers took a decade.
During this lengthy journey, the star of Big Little Lies experienced additional challenges related to her mental health. “I developed fear of food due to stomach pain,” she shared, “and this led to body dysmorphia, confusion about my identity, and feelings of insecurity and uncertainty about what it meant to feel safe and comfortable in my own skin.”
After addressing both her physical and mental health concerns, Shailene is now in good health. She expressed gratitude for her recovery, saying, “This was a journey that ultimately resolved itself physically, and I am very healthy now. I’m so glad to be able to say that.
