Although an official announcement has yet to be made, it’s looking likely that a third installment of M3GAN might be in the works. This is based on the director of the first two movies, Gerard Johnstone, expressing confidence about the franchise’s continuation.

It seems they have plans and are actively brainstorming for another one, and I can’t wait to be among the first to watch it when it comes out.

Regarding the last topic, it appears that if there’s another M3GAN movie, it might need a new director, as Johnstone has stated that M3GAN 2.0 marks his final chapter in the series.

He affirmed, “That’s my final project,” he said. “I’ve been part of these films since 2018, when I received the initial script. It’s been quite a journey for me, and I’ve poured all my energy and dedication into this film because it means so much to me.

It’s unlikely that Johnstone leaving the series will impact decisions about its future, considering many action-horror franchise series have multiple directors over time.

Essentially, whether there will be a third movie or not seems to hinge upon the financial performance of 2.0 at the box office and the actors’ readiness to commit to another project.

She indeed expressed to The Hollywood Reporter her hope for a M3GAN trilogy, stating that she doesn’t feel completed with creating these films alongside this team and in this thematic setting.

“So, yeah, I have been dreaming of a third, for sure.”

In the meantime, a spin-off film, titled Soulm8te, is set for release in 2026.

The summary hints at a storyline where a man gets an artificially intelligent robot to help him deal with the passing of his late spouse.

By accident, he transformed an innocuous companion designed for affection into a potentially lethal counterpart capable of emotional depth.

Though it’s uncertain if M3GAN will make another appearance, the realm she established will persist regardless.
