Since August 14, Madden NFL 26 has been available on PC, Nintendo Switch, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S, with early access a week prior. This means that fans of the football simulation series have had plenty of time to play and evaluate this year’s edition, determining what they enjoy and dislike. Prior to its release, EA focused on making the game more enjoyable. However, initial players of Madden NFL 26 seem to be enjoying it no more than usual, or in some cases, not enjoying it at all.
Every year, Madden fans express a diverse range of criticisms, but perhaps none is more frequently voiced than the disapproval towards the Wear and Tear system in Madden NFL 26. For those unaware, in Madden NFL 26, players are given the option between Wear and Tear or Progressive Fatigue, a choice that some fans find as selecting the “lesser of two problems.
Since the launch of Madden NFL 26, a frequent topic on the Madden Reddit forum has been about the features Wear and Tear and Progressive Fatigue. For instance, one of the popular posts following the game’s release on the Madden subreddit is a comment expressing that Wear and Tear is “absurd” and “unmanageable.” Most notably, it seems to be causing players an excessive number of injuries.
Many players are expressing dissatisfaction with these new systems, particularly Wear and Tear and Progressive Fatigue, as they find them to be unrealistic and detrimental to the franchise mode experience. Essentially, it appears that these changes were not something the community was asking for.
Wear and tear is ridiculous, out of control

In EA’s Madden NFL 26, they’ve chosen to limit players to either one of two game settings, though they haven’t given much explanation for this decision. It appears that their goal is to create a realistic experience, as football does involve managing injuries and playing time to prevent them. However, sometimes the need for entertainment takes precedence over realism in games, which EA acknowledged before release. These enforced game settings seem to contradict this aim for fun. Unfortunately, the entire game feels underdeveloped and poorly planned, so perhaps it’s not surprising that this aspect also falls short.
Madden NFL 26 can be purchased for $70 on Nintendo Switch 2, PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X. However, given the large number of players expressing dissatisfaction with this latest version, it might be wise to hold off until subsequent updates enhance and polish the football simulation. In the interim, some exceptional EA games are available at a discounted price of just $2.
