Now that *Mafia: The Old Country* has been available for over a month, people are looking to 2K Games and Hangar 13 to see what’s next for the *Mafia* series. The YouTube channel *Mafia* Game Videos reports that Carina Conti, who played Isabella Torrisi in *Mafia: The Old Country*, has stated that 2K Games has approved development of another *Mafia* game.
The YouTuber reported that Conti revealed during a livestream on Bubbly Nuggets that 2K and Hangar 13 had been given the go-ahead to create a new *Mafia* game. This came after the host asked if another installment in the series had been confirmed, and Conti stated, “They were approved for another *Mafia* game, this is true.”
Neither Hangar 13 nor 2K has officially shared any plans for the future of the *Mafia* series. They haven’t confirmed any downloadable content for *Mafia: The Old Country*, but a free update is coming that will include a Free Ride Mode.
Okay, so this game is *blowing up*! I heard it sold over 800,000 copies in just the first four days, which is insane. Honestly, it doesn’t surprise me at all that the people who made it are already thinking about a sequel. Apparently, the PS5 version is the most popular, followed by the PC version, and then Xbox. Pretty cool to see where everyone’s playing!
Strong initial sales demonstrate the continued popularity of the *Mafia* franchise and confirm the studio’s decision to create a story-focused game with a cinematic style, according to a report by Sensor Tower. The game’s better performance on PlayStation could be because that platform is well-suited for single-player games with strong narratives.
Mafia: The Old Country is the newest game in the Mafia series, following Mafia 3 which was released in 2016. Unlike previous games set in the United States, this installment takes players to Italy, exploring the origins of the Italian mafia.
Hangar 13 says this new release signals a fresh start for the studio. They’ve switched from their own in-house game engine to Unreal Engine 5 for Mafia: The Old Country. Studio president Nick Baynes and game director Alex Cox discussed the reasons for this change back in July.
According to Cox, Unreal Engine is now well-known for its ability to deliver stunning visuals to games. For this particular project, the team wanted to really showcase the beautiful landscapes of Sicily and create a high-quality, cinematic experience, and technologies like MetaHuman were key to achieving that.
As a fan, I have to say the acting in this new Mafia game is just incredible! The facial expressions are so realistic, and that’s always been a huge part of what makes the Mafia games so immersive. When we started working on this version, making the environments and cutscenes look cutting-edge was a top priority – we really wanted to push the visual boundaries like the previous games did when they first came out.
