Mage Arena: How To Get More Spells – Complete Spell Guide

If you’ve ever shouted “Thunderbolt!” into your microphone, only to find that you’ve inadvertently knocked your teammate off a cliff, then you’ve had the same experience I have.

The “Mage Arena” is a unique, voice-activated game that simulates the role of a battlemage. Instead of typing, you verbally summon spells. It’s a blend of magical fantasy and unintended humor. However, shouting “Fireball!” into your microphone can be entertaining, but things become truly exciting when you start unlocking new spells such as Dark Blast, Blink, or Divine Light.

The game fails to provide clear instructions on how to obtain additional spells or explain their functions. If you’re finding yourself limited to the initial four spells and struggling against the challenges in the Mausoleum, don’t fret.

This manual focuses on providing insights about uncovering additional magical abilities, their functions, how they can be combined for optimal results, and discovering the special ingredient that transforms you from a novice to a powerful sorcerer.

How To Get More Spells (Complete Spell Guide)

Spellcasting in Mage Arena is done with your actual voice. Here’s how it works:

  1. Press 1–4 to open a spellbook page
  2. Shout the spell name or a part of it
  3. Watch chaos unfold

You start with just four spells:

Spell Voice Command Effect
Fireball “Fire” plus/or “Ball” AoE explosion, burns & knocks back
Freeze “Freeze” Freezes enemies in place
Magic Missile “Magic” plus/or “Missile” Fires homing bolts
Wormhole “Worm” plus/or “Hole” Creates a teleport portal system

If you’re craving for more, you’ll require the elusive Fragmented Enchantment Scrolls. These can be discovered in perilous locations, bargained with gnome traders, or pilfered from Player vs Environment areas. Learn more about it further down!

All Methods to Get More Spells

Check out this comprehensive guide to the key locations where you can find the Torn Spell Pages in Mage Arena. Start at the eerie Mausoleum (marked as number 5 on the map), then venture into the Gnome Forest (location 7) for some chance trades, and finally make your way to the Lava Castle (number 8). This guide covers all the spots you’ll need.

Regarding other locations and ecosystems, you can find comprehensive details, including versions with and without flags, in my guide titled “Mage Arena Comprehensive Guide to All Biomes“. Give it a look!

1. Lava Castle Chests (PvE Loot Run)

Four towers adorn the castle, one at each corner. Ascend the volcanic-ridden steps and break open the large chests found at the summit. Inside these treasure troves lie tattered manuscripts, exotic equipment, and potent enchantments such as Thunderbolt or Divine Light. A word of caution: the mages clad in red robes who patrol the area pack a punch like trucks and seem to reappear quicker than you can utter “Incantation.

Tip: Stack Crystal Soup before you go—faster movement and more spell damage.

2. Mausoleum & Crypt Loot

Carry a flashlight with you, otherwise you might run into walls in the darkness. To be honest, this location has become my top choice—it’s simply the best method for acquiring spells.

Break open those colossal urns, weave around the erratic teleporting skeletons, and if you’re adventurous, chase after the fragments of Excalibur. You might come across torn pages here that contain potent spells such as Dark Blast or Wisp.

Note: Skeletons fake-dead. Don’t turn your back.

3. Gnome Trading (Risky but Fun) – Gnome Village

Place an object close to the gnome (press G), and occasionally they might reward you with a tattered magic scroll. It’s all about luck—I’ve exchanged a sword for a twig, but I also once received Blink by offering them mushrooms. However, be cautious not to trade your spell book—you can only recover that when you perish.

In this region, there are 4 gnome characters, and following a trade, each one needs some time to cool down or reset. A good tactic would be to cycle through them, much like a polite loot goblin who distributes items efficiently. By the time you return to your initial position, their cooldowns often have been reactivated, allowing you to continue engaging in this peculiar trading ritual smoothly.

My take: Best done when you have extra junk or just feel lucky.

Complete Spell List (With Tips)

  • One-word commands are usually enough. Just say “Missile” instead of the whole thing.
    • That’s why half the lobby ends up shouting stuff like “Ball!”, “Blast!”, or getting weirdly creative with names like “Biden Blast” or “Skibidi Missile” or uhh… I won’t mention it, but you probably know what I’m talking about.
  • Say it like you mean it—your mic hears better if you enunciate like a cartoon villain.
  • British accent = bugged. Use the default (American) voice setting for better spell recognition. Indian accent works though, try it!
  • Having issues? Go to Pause Menu → Reset Voice Detection.
Spell Command Effect Cooldown Notes
Fireball “Fire” plus/or “Ball” AoE, burn, knockback 5s Aim above targets for splash; passes through Wormholes
Freeze “Freeze” Freezes enemies (invulnerable) 8s Great for traps; breaks Wormholes
Magic Missile “Magic” plus/or “Missile” Homing bolts 5s Nerfed a bit recently, but still strong
Wormhole “Worm” plus/or “Hole” Two-way portal.

“Worm” to set entrance, “Hole” for exit. Teleport between.

45s Fireball + Wormhole = artillery
Thunderbolt “Thunder” plus/or “Bolt” Instant lightning strike 14s Aim at feet for reliable hit
Blink “Blink” Short teleport 9s Goes through walls, prevents fall damage
Dark Blast “Dark” plus/or “Blast” Piercing beam 24s High damage; requires aim
Wisp “Wisp” Seeks nearest player 24s Strong vs campers; doesn’t target AI
Divine Light “Divine” plus/or “Light” AoE heal (friends & enemies) 39s Huge clutch heal during team fights
Rock “Rock” Drops a boulder from above 24s Good for cover or chaos; meme-tier
Weed Pipe “Pipe” or “Smoke” Reduces cooldowns 12s Blows smoke rings… for some reason

Spell Combos & Tricks

  • Freeze → Fireball → Missile: Clean burst combo.
  • Thunderbolt → Freeze → Fireball: AoE chain wipe.
  • Wormhole + Fireball: Long-range artillery.
  • Blink + Divine Light: Blink into your team, drop a clutch heal.

Blink is truly remarkable, despite being a pesky rodent-like creature. When my entire team was eliminated and our base was taken by the enemy, I matched it against a Walking Stick. I managed to delay them significantly for almost half an hour, constantly evading them by using Blink to recall and heal.

More “Meme” Combos That Work

  • Freeze + Hide Behind Enemy: They block Magic Missiles for you.
  • Frog Soup + Frog Stick + Freeze: Disarm enemies mid-recall.
  • Rock Spam + Wisp: Blunt force and homing chaos.
  • Blink + Boinger: Surprise air attacks.
  • Pipe + Fireball spam: Channel your inner flamethrower.

Soup Buffs That Boost Your Magic

Prepare your soups by delivering ingredients to the Soup Maker at your homebase. These soups can be stored and remain even after you die. Combine them with spells for exciting spell-soup combinations!

Ingredient Soup Effect
Crystal Movement speed + spell power
Mushroom Jump height + no fall damage
Frog Enemies randomly drop gear (includes allies!)
Log Temp health + heals
Rock Your voice echoes across the map. Tactical? Nah. Hilarious? Yes.

Level Up = Stronger Spells

Gaining control over areas (rather than fortresses) awards your squad with experience points. This, in turn, boosts your Spell Power, making every spell more potent.

You’ll notice:

  • Bigger explosions
  • Longer freezes
  • Shorter cooldowns
  • New effects (extra bolts, permanent portals, etc.)

Max Spell Level is 12. Hit Q in-game to check your current level and flag control.

In this prolonged game, I reached the maximum level and repeatedly cast the ultimate spell, Wisp, towards the enemy base. Whether it caused significant harm or not, it certainly disrupted their strategy.

Wrapping It All Up

Mage Arena’s spell system is messy, chaotic, and absolutely glorious once you figure it out.

Crumpled Sheets yield fresh playthings. Broth provides strength. Announcing “FIREBALL!” as you wink at the adversary’s stronghold, well, that’s incredibly relieving.

Delve into the castle, barter with the gnome merchants, plunder the crypts – give every novelty a go. Each fresh magic spell alters your gaming experience. In case of emergencies?

This version retains the original’s spirit while simplifying it and making it more accessible to readers unfamiliar with role-playing game jargon.

If you’re just starting out with Mage Arena and want to fully understand the game mechanics, I highly recommend checking out my comprehensive beginner’s guide for a thorough overview. It’s definitely worth your time!
