Magic: The Gathering fans were eager for big news at this year’s MagicCon, and Wizards of the Coast delivered. At MagicCon: Atlanta, they gave everyone a first look at plans for 2026. While they didn’t share everything coming for the popular game, they announced a new Marvel-themed set to follow the Spider-Man release. However, it was the announcement of a Star Trek collaboration that really excited fans.
Marvel Super Heroes

Wizards of the Coast began by discussing their existing world, *Lorwyn Eclipsed*, and previewed the upcoming *Secrets of Strixhaven* set. They also hinted at another *Universes Beyond* collaboration, though details are still to come. The next *Magic: The Gathering* set based on Marvel will be called *Marvel Super Heroes* and is scheduled to release in June 2026.
The showcase revealed a large roster of heroes and villains. Confirmed characters for the upcoming set include Black Panther, Captain Marvel, She-Hulk, Wolverine, Hawkeye, Kate Bishop, Wiccan, Thor, Ms. Marvel, Iron Man, Scarlet Witch, War Machine, Captain America, the Fantastic Four, S.H.I.E.L.D., the Heroes For Hire team (Luke Cage, Misty Knight, Iron Fist, and Colleen Wing), Daredevil, Giant Man, Cassie Lang, and even Squirrel Girl!

As a huge Marvel fan, I’m so excited to see so many villains in this set! We’re talking Killmonger, M.O.D.O.K., Grim Reaper, the big guys like Thanos and Ultron, and even some lesser-known but awesome characters like Taskmaster, Absorbing Man, and Titania. Plus, classic baddies like Baron Zemo, Viper, Abomination, Loki, Kang, The Leader, and, naturally, the one and only Doctor Doom! It’s a villainous dream team!
This collection will feature characters related to the Avengers, but it won’t be limited to just team members – we’re planning to include a wider range of heroes. We’re also taking inspiration directly from the comic books, not the TV shows or movies. For example, Ms. Marvel’s abilities in the comics are different than what you see in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and that’s the version we’ll be using for these characters on the cards.
Star Trek

The Magic team shared a lot of exciting news during their presentation, but they ended with a particularly big reveal: a new *Star Trekthemed set is coming to Magic! Many believe it will be one of the most popular releases of the year, scheduled to launch in November 2026.
The announcement was met with a huge response, and the photos show that Magic and Star Trek are a fantastic combination. The team explained this collaboration has been years in the works and perfectly coincides with Star Trek’s 60th anniversary.

This collection will draw inspiration from the entire Star Trek universe, including the classic series, *Star Trek: The Next Generation*, and newer shows like *Star Trek: Strange New Worlds*, and everything that comes after. The panel featured the Starship Enterprise, but the set will include many different starships. The same is true for characters – you can expect to see iconic figures like Captain Kirk and Chancellor Gowron, alongside memorable elements like the Crystalline Entity.
Even though we’re still waiting to learn about the future of *Star Trek* movies and TV shows, the franchise will be available in tabletop gaming soon, and it looks fantastic. We should get more information before the year ends, and *Magic: The Gathering’s* plans for 2026 are already generating a lot of excitement.
