Mahershala Ali, a highly respected and popular actor known for films like Moonlight and Green Book, generated a lot of excitement when he was cast as Blade in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. While he was announced for the role back in 2019, the production of the Blade reboot has faced numerous challenges. The film has gone through multiple changes in directors and writers, which has unfortunately delayed Ali’s first appearance as Blade in the MCU.
Mahershala Ali has been connected to the role of Blade in the Marvel Cinematic Universe for a while. He provided the voice for Blade in a brief scene after the credits of the 2021 film Eternals, and his appearance was used digitally in Marvel Zombies. Wesley Snipes recently returned as Blade in Deadpool & Wolverine, but we still haven’t seen Ali fully take on the role in a live-action movie. Recent fan art shared on Instagram by @70.6ix is getting fans even more hyped to see Ali as the Daywalker, and many believe he’s perfectly cast.
We Can’t Wait for Blade to Finally Debut in the Live-Action MCU

Mahershala Ali consistently takes on challenging roles in science fiction and big-budget franchises, fully committing to diverse characters. From his work in projects like The Hunger Games, Alphas, Predators, Alita: Battle Angel, the Spider-Verse films, True Detective, and Invincible, it’s clear he’ll be a fantastic Blade in the Marvel Cinematic Universe – assuming the character makes it to the screen. Blade’s arrival will significantly impact the MCU, and we recently got a first look at what that might mean in a recent Marvel animated series.
Todd Williams, known for his work on shows like The Chicago Code and Teen Wolf, provided the voice for Eric Brooks in Marvel Zombies. However, the character was designed to resemble Ali, and this version of Blade is a unique variant who is possessed by Khonshu instead of Marc Spector. Though the live-action Blade in the Marvel Cinematic Universe will likely be different, Marvel Zombies offered a glimpse of how capable, determined, and strong Ali’s take on the character could be. His impressive defeat of the zombified Ghost as Blade Knight showcased these qualities, and fans are eager to see similar scenes in the main MCU storyline.
The release date for the new Blade movie is still uncertain, but it’s expected to be part of Phase 7 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Mahershala Ali is still set to star as Blade, along with Mia Goth, and Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige says the project is now on track. Marvel is currently searching for a director – potentially their last – and several well-known filmmakers have been mentioned as possibilities, including Guillermo del Toro, Fede Álvarez, Jordan Peele, Chad Stahelski, and Ryan Coogler. While fans don’t mind waiting, they hope Marvel takes the time to get Blade just right. Everyone is eager to see Mahershala Ali finally play the iconic vampire hunter in the MCU.
