Robert Pattinson is still set to play Batman in Matt Reeves’ ongoing Batman series. However, DC Studios is also creating a new Batman for their broader DC Universe. Currently, the only confirmed project is a script called The Brave and the Bold. While casting hasn’t started, fans are already suggesting actors, and Bridgerton star Jonathan Bailey has become a popular pick. Bailey has now publicly addressed the possibility of joining the DC Universe.
While on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Tyler Perry spoke about rumors he might play Batman. He said he admired the actors who’ve played the role before – Val Kilmer, George Clooney, Christian Bale, and Robert Pattinson – and called it an iconic part. He also praised James Gunn, leaving the possibility open but offering no confirmation.
Why Jonathan Bailey Would Be a Great Choice for the DCU’s Batman

James Gunn likely won’t begin casting for the DCU’s Batman until the script for Brave and the Bold is finished, but he should strongly consider Glen Powell. A major challenge for DC Studios with this project is explaining to audiences why another live-action Batman is needed, especially given Matt Reeves’ existing series. Robert Pattinson’s Batman is notably dark and gritty, drawing inspiration from figures like Kurt Cobain. Powell, however, could offer a very different take. He has the charisma to play a charming, sophisticated Bruce Wayne – more of a playboy than Pattinson’s version – but also the acting ability to show the character’s internal struggles, ensuring he wouldn’t come across as overly silly.
The upcoming Batman movie in the DC Universe is currently planned to focus on the relationship between Bruce Wayne and his son, Damian Wayne. This means the film, titled The Brave and the Bold, will feature an older, experienced Batman, and Glen Powell is the right age to convincingly play the role. Given the movie isn’t expected until after The Batman Part II in 2027, Powell has the time to prepare. He also has experience in large-scale films like Wicked and a new Jurassic World movie, making him a natural fit for a major studio production.
Okay, so everyone’s talking about who could play Batman, and while I think Bailey would be awesome, there are tons of possibilities. Right now, a lot of fans seem fixated on guys like Alan Ritchson, which makes sense, but I’m hoping James Gunn and the team might surprise us with someone totally unexpected. Remember how they cast Superman? David Corenswet wasn’t the frontrunner, apparently Gunn always has a specific vision, so they’re going to do a really thorough search. Honestly, it all hinges on the script. They need someone who perfectly fits the Batman they’re going for in this story. And Gunn’s made it clear – he wants a seriously intense, even unhinged Batman. He wants a “f—ing maniac,” which gives you a good idea of the vibe he’s after!
Fans are eagerly waiting for updates on The Brave and the Bold. Director Andy Muschietti hinted that some news might be coming soon. Right now, the biggest announcement they could likely make is who will play the new Batman. Although The Brave and the Bold is still a ways off, other DC Universe projects are coming out first, like a film centered around Clayface in Gotham City. It’s possible we’ll see Batman appear in one of these other projects before he gets his own movie.
