Major DC Animated Series Returns to HBO Max After Recent Removal

Streaming services have made it easier than ever to watch popular movies and shows, but some platforms are facing criticism from viewers. Recently, HBO Max removed several animated series, including titles like Beware the Batman, Looney Tunes, The Powerpuff Girls, and Static Shock. However, there’s some good news: one animated series originally planned for removal from Warner Bros.’ streaming service has been saved.

Last year, both Beware the Batman and Watchmen: The Complete Motion Comic were removed from HBO Max. Now, surprisingly, the motion comic is back on the streaming service, though HBO Max hasn’t explained why it was taken down in the first place. Currently, HBO Max offers several different versions of Watchmen, including the 2009 film, the original live-action series, Watchmen: The Ultimate Cut, and the animated Watchmen Chapter I & II. Motion Comic Rorschach And Friends Return

Released in 2008, Watchmen: The Complete Motion Comic offered fans twelve half-hour episodes revisiting the world created by Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons. Instead of new animation, this series brought the classic Watchmen comic to life by animating the original panels and adding voice acting. Importantly, unlike Zack Snyder’s film adaptation, this series remained completely faithful to the source material, preserving the iconic story as originally told.

Since the original Watchmen comic debuted in the 1980s, its characters have reappeared in many different forms. DC Comics has created numerous follow-up stories, including sequels and prequels, but one of the most significant returns came with Doomsday Clock. This 2017 crossover event brought the world of the Justice League together with the iconic characters of Watchmen – like Nite Owl, the Comedian, and Dr. Manhattan – and permanently changed both universes.

Although a follow-up to the Doomsday Clock comic series hasn’t been announced, it’s possible it could become an animated movie or series. DC Animation has successfully combined characters before, as seen in Batman vs. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Since DC owns all the characters featured in Doomsday Clock, adapting it for animation might be a simpler process than previous team-ups.
