Isekai—stories about ordinary people transported to extraordinary, often magical, worlds—has become hugely popular in anime, and for good reason. Series like Overlord, Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation, and Sword Art Online have really defined the genre. Now, one particularly successful isekai anime, which gained a large following on the HIDIVE streaming service, is set to be a major attraction at this year’s biggest anime convention in just a few weeks.
If you’re looking for a clever and surprising isekai anime, check out The Eminence in Shadow. It follows Minoru Kageno, who relies on his intelligence to navigate his new world. The anime, produced by Studio Nexus, currently has two seasons, and fans are eager to know if a third is coming. We might find out this March! The creators are planning an announcement at Anime Japan on March 28th and 29th. While details are still under wraps, given how popular the series is and how much of the original story hasn’t been animated yet, it’s likely we’ll hear about either a third season or a new movie.
Eminence in Shadow Will Return
I’ve been following The Eminence in Shadow since the original light novels came out in 2018, and it’s really grown into something big! What started as a series of books has now become a manga, an anime, and even a video game. Recently, they announced a new movie, The Eminence in Shadow: Lost Echoes, which will continue the story after season two. We haven’t heard much about the movie’s release date since the announcement, so it was good to see it mentioned at Anime Japan this year – any news is welcome at this point!
This isn’t the only anime series that will be featured at this year’s Anime Japan event. So far, franchises like Trigun, Baki The Grappler, Re:Zero, Daemons of the Shadow Realm, and more have been confirmed to attend and share news about upcoming projects. Anime Japan has a history of revealing big announcements for popular anime, so we anticipate similar news for Eminence in Shadow.
If you haven’t watched the anime yet, you can find it streaming on HIDIVE and Hulu. This story, which falls into the ‘isekai’ genre, centers around a young hero who relies on intelligence and strategy to survive a harsh world – similar to characters like Lelouch and Detective Conan.
