Starting September 18th, Xbox Game Pass subscribers can play Frostpunk 2, the follow-up to 2018’s Frostpunk, without purchasing it at launch. Initially released in 2024 only for PC, Frostpunk 2 didn’t quite match the excitement of its predecessor, which sold over five million copies. However, it was still a significant sequel from 11 Bit Studios in 2024.
For those new to the game, it’s a combination of city-building and survival games. Initially, it received an impressive 85 on Metacritic, but its Steam User Review indicates that this score might be slightly inflated since on Steam, it only has a 75% approval rating from users.
In simple terms, “Frostpunk 2” pushes the boundaries within the city-survival genre. You’ll assume the role of a Steward, guiding your city through a series of crises in a post-apocalyptic, snowy environment. Construct vast city districts with their constant stream of requirements and demands. Manage the competing interests among the factions that inhabit your metropolis. As the city’s needs escalate and internal conflicts intensify, it will be up to you to guide society towards an uncertain future.
When Frostpunk 2 is included in Xbox Game Pass, there’s uncertainty about how long it will stay on the platform. However, while it’s still part of Game Pass, subscribers can take advantage of a 20% discount to buy it.
