I’ve been following RuriDragon, a really great fantasy manga by Masaoki Shindo in Shonen Jump, since it first appeared as a short story in Jump GIGA. It officially started as a weekly series in Weekly Shonen Jump in June 2022, but after a long break of over a year and a half, it moved to the digital Shonen Jump+ platform in April 2024. The author, Shindo, has unfortunately had some health issues, which have caused frequent breaks and slowed down the release schedule. That’s why, after three and a half years, there are only 44 chapters available. So far, four collected volumes have been published, and three of those are already available in English. The fourth volume came out in Japan in November 2025, but we’re still waiting to hear when the English version will be released.
New chapters of the manga are released every two weeks on the official Manga Plus app. After chapter 44 came out on January 25, 2026, the series took a one-month break. The author announced on X (formerly Twitter) that the next chapter will appear in Issue 9 of Weekly Shonen Jump on March 2nd, 2026 (Japan Standard Time). The reason for the break hasn’t been officially stated, but it’s probably due to a planned vacation or the author needing to rest. Although the manga’s release schedule can be unpredictable, this isn’t a particularly long pause, especially considering it followed a dramatic cliffhanger.
What Is The Plot of RuriDragon?

The story centers around Ruri Aoki, a typical high school student, who is surprised to discover horns growing from her head. Her mother then reveals a shocking secret: Ruri’s father is a dragon, making her half-dragon herself. Even after this incredible news, Ruri tries to maintain a normal life, getting ready for school and heading there as usual, all while questioning everything she thought she knew about dragons – creatures she always believed were just legends.
Despite a recent and unexpected change in her life, she tries to maintain a normal routine, but finds herself increasingly bothered by the attention she receives at school. Her unusual appearance doesn’t go unnoticed, and things quickly become more complicated. The story follows her journey of self-discovery, as she learns to accept who she is and develops hidden abilities, all while navigating the everyday chaos around her.
In December 2025, an anime adaptation of the manga was announced, and it will be produced by the well-known studio Kyoto Animation. This marks their first series from Shonen Jump, and fans are already discussing it. While details about the anime’s release date are still to come, we can likely expect more information later this year. You can read all the chapters online through the Manga Plus app, or on the official Viz Media website, which also offers links to purchase the manga volumes in English, both physically and digitally.
