It’s unfortunate that one popular Xbox Game Pass title is being removed from the service, and it happens to be at a particularly inconvenient time. To add insult to injury, this particular game has only recently joined the Microsoft subscription service, debuting in April, and is now scheduled to leave on August 31st, leaving subscribers with just four months to enjoy it. Given that the game can take up to 80 hours to finish, this relatively short window may not be enough for players to fully immerse themselves in its rich content.
The version of Borderlands 3 that’s leaving Xbox Game Pass on August 31 is the Ultimate Edition, offering both the main game and all its DLCs. It’s one of the most prominent games offered by Xbox Game Pass right now. On its own, this departure might not seem significant, but it becomes more concerning when you consider how soon it was added and then removed. And to add fuel to the fire, its exit is just a few weeks before the anticipated launch of Borderlands 4, making it even more unfortunate for fans.
Borderlands 4 Imminent
Borderlands 4 is scheduled to drop on September 23, just a month away. Yet surprisingly, it won’t be accessible through Xbox Game Pass upon its release. One would assume that Gearbox would maintain the availability of Borderlands 3 in Xbox Game Pass until the arrival of Borderlands 4, as a means to attract Xbox and PC gamers to the new title. However, it’s possible that Gearbox believes the launch of Borderlands 4 will boost sales of its predecessor, Borderlands 3, so they don’t want it to be offered for free to millions when this occurs.
No More Borderlands Games
As Borderlands 3 departs from Xbox Game Pass, it signifies that no more Borderlands titles will be accessible through this service. This means that fan-favorites like Borderlands, Borderlands 2, Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel, Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands, and the entire series lineup are about to vanish from Xbox Game Pass. It appears as though Gearbox is overlooking a potential chance to attract new players who might not be ready to invest $70 in Borderlands 4. These players, however, may become captivated by the Borderlands series through their Xbox Game Pass subscription and eventually consider purchasing Borderlands 4 at a later date when prices drop.
